this auction is closed, so it's o.k. to link:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150244169201&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=005
"real ivory" is mentioned 5x in this listing. i have a collection of antique real ivory pieces and doubt that this knife is ivory handled. however it does not look like the regular Schrade ivory colored Delrin, nor "French ivory" (a good imitation "ivory"). a white paper micarta ? hence the "real grain visible" ?
is anyone familiar with this Schrade knife ? thanks, roland

Could It be celluloid? Ivory doesn't shrink does it?
I dont have ivory knives myself, but I doubt that this is real ivory as well.

Just a wild GUESS but I would say it has been re-scaled? no pins showing:confused: As well as the so called dating is pre-ban, Ivory was banned /google 1990? MY GUESS and no more!:D

I have no idea if the material is ivory or not, but I really like the artwork and would have bid on it if I had been aware of the auction.

Scrimshaw is signed "BD". is this a known Schrade scrimshaw artist ?
rare that i feel confident enough about a knife to make a definitive statement, but here goes : it is NOT ivory. roland

Right on Rusty, you found BD. i just phoned the BD company; polyresin; they have absolutely NEVER done any work with ivory, quote from the information receptionist. so this is an LB7 with polyresin scales by Barlow Designs. she also said they do not do (and have never done) custom work for individuals. they do however have 5" LBs, so these scales were probably for one of the BD knives, applied by someone else to this LB7, hence the poor fit.

Good information Roland, you may never know when one of these may turn up in the future.

and i agree with Tim. the polyresin handles detract from the knife's potential beauty. give me an original Schrade, or if customized, make it well done and in an upscale material. roland
