Schrade returns.....sort of.

After reading an article in the June issue of Knife World about United Cutlery I decided to take another look at their website. The article stated that United built a new plant in Tenn. and is hoping to take up some of the market left by Schrade. I think it's great that they are trying to make something in the US. I found the Schrade replicas under their Rigid line. They have a Sharpfinger and a couple X-timer fixed blades that are made in the US but the Sharpfinger is stainless (many of the end Schrades were anyway). They have an Xtimer looking version of the Sharpfinger also. The rest of the line including the Old Timer facsimiles look to be all foreign since they do not list the country of origin. They have many newer Schrade styles such as the Badger and Xtac and even have a cable lock!
The steel looks to be mostly 420 and 440a.
At least they are trying but I sure would have liked to see them produce a US made slipjoint.

That's interesting. I have a Kissing Crane from United that is surprisingly good. I guess United does know what a good knife is when they choose to make/import it instead of their regular junk. I am certainly going to keep an eye out for new United slipjoints.
