I have been lusting after and looking for this knife for good long while now. The stars must have been in the proper alignment or something because I found one. Nothing puts a smile on a knife knuts face like finally finding a knife they have been searching for.

Schrade/Joe Kious reverse congress collaboration knife. My history may be a little sketchy but if I recall correctly these were made by Schrade in 2002 in collaboration with knifemaker Joe Kious. A couple of hundred (?) were made with green bone and a shield and a thousand made with this brown bone. Norris ladder damascus blades, complete firework and fancy bolsters, 3 3/8 inches. This one looks like it has been stored since it was made in 2002. So after 12 years it will at last get to take a ride in a pocket. Forgive the poor photos. It is much better looking in person.

Very cool! :thumbup: Congratulations on finding that gem, I have never seen one like it. I'm glad that it is finally free and able to enjoy its new life in your pocket.

Beautiful knife, Rob. I have one myself that I got from A. G. Russell back when they first came out. I carry it now and then and just love it. Enjoy!

Here's some info from an old post by Codger_64 that I'd copied;

"Joe Kious SJK1 Reverse Congress Collaboration
In the spring of 2002, people were anticipating the appearance of a new Schrade collaboration with custom maker and guild member, Joe Kious, whose work reflects his philosophy that a knife should be carried and used, no matter how ornate, “functional jewelry”. Having been a full-time knife maker since 1980, he had developed a readily identifiable style for his work.
The NICA series was numbered 1-100 with green bone & shield. The standard was 1-1000 brown bone, no shield, both had Norris ladder s/s Damascus and both came with N/S bolsters & liners. As with the other limited production knives from Schrade, there were only 1,000 of these folders made. This is a handsome small "Reverse Congress Pattern". It has scales of nice 50 year old jigged bone. The blades of nicely patterned stainless Damascus steel, are ground and adjusted to nest perfectly.
This beautiful little folder measures 3-3/8" closed with 2" drop point and Wharncliffe blades, and came with a genuine leather pocket pouch to protect the knife. Weighs 2.0 oz. MSRP was about $250.

As with all of the other custom makers with whom I spoke, Mr. Kious remembers his experience with the Schrade collaboration as a positive one. According to Joe, they performed their end of the deal to the letter, producing the agreed upon knives of his design in an excellent manner, were forthright and honest, and fulfilled their end by compensating him as promised."

It's a great feeling of achievement when you get a grail knife you've been lasting forever. Consider yourself a lucky guy :thumbup: The knife itself looks great.

SO, does it handle as strangely as it looks ? I have collected congress knives forever and a " reverse ' model just looks bassackwards weird to me.

If you twist your face around and hold your mouth just right it handles OK. :D

Thanks for the comments, gents. It didn't ever register on me until this morning that the scales are dovetailed into the bolsters, nice touch.

Seems you pick up a little more every time you study these rare jewels of ours. Congratulations Rob on a fine collectors piece.

Absolutely Beautiful knife, Rob.
"Congratulations" seems a weak word to use for the finding of such a grail knife, but I have no better. Congratulations!
