I found this at a knife/gun show, circa 1998. It's a standard Old Timer / Uncle Henry pattern folder, except w/ a drop point blade, birdseye maple scales, inset brass medallion for engraving. No thumb pull groove in the blade. Schrade tells me it's a "second" from a short run of rodeo trophy knives. I don't know which rodeo, and Schrade didn't know either.

Walt Garrison was affiliated with Schrade for a while. Retired athelete (fullback for the Dallas Cowboys), whittler, he was an owner of U.S. Tobacco (Skoal/Copenhagen) (Vice President of United States Tobacco Company in 1986) and a sponsor of racing, rodeo, bull riding and other sports. I suspect that he might have comissioned these if they are as claimed, intended as rodeo awards.

That makes sense. I phoned Schrade out of curiosity on this item. They seemed to know what it was immediately, no searching around. I've always liked this pattern, but then I collect them. I never use them.
