Is the schrade sc507 scrimshaw knife supposed to have a serial # stamped on one of the bolsters? I bought one lately & it doesn't have one.
Thanks in advance

Ron

From what I've been able to determine, it would have a S/N on the bolster if it was issued as part of a set of some sort. But Schrade put out scrims pretty much annually for a while, and most of those annual issues did not have S/Ns.

Good answer Dave. A lot of 507SC knives were made, some serialized, some not. It was a pretty popular pattern for special factory orders also, and it cost a bit more to have custom imprinted knives serialized, so quite a few customers opted out on this operation. Commonly, the Scrimshaw Of The Great American Outdoors series knives were limited to 3,000 pieces, half of which were sold in serialized sets. Also, a percentage of overruns were made to allow for QC rejects and later warranty replacement. I'm not aware of anyone going to the trouble to reproduce or fake the 507SC yet, so I wouldn't let that concern me.

I have one that is in excellent condition with an Elk on one side. Is it worth anything.

dsnx2: Go to http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/ and take a look at the Price List. Schrade put out one for each year. Some contain what they sold it for as well as the suggusted retail price. Now is this to say your knife is worth that. That all depends on the the condition and who wants it. Price wise! That is really something that can not be talked about on the forum. Just a heads up. Do you got any pictures of it? Schrade did an Elk in a few different year like 1984, 1991 and 1994. Just to name a few that I have found in the Price List.
