Hello all, I have a few questions and thought this would be the place to start. I recently picked up a Schrade Scrimshaw SC509 with a nice leather sheath in trade at an army surplus store. I was mostly looking for handmades but this piece really stood out to me. It's in great condition except for some mild tarish. It's USA made and has 2 geese on one side of the handle and a decorative designe on the other. I haven't been able to find much info on the date of this piece or info such as was the scrim done by hand? Or what the handle was made out of. My guess is simulated ivory but I'm no expert. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you could post a pic of the knife, that would help out the Schrade experts on this forum. You show 'em a pic and they'll tell you all they know.

Hey Lindey,
There are many on here who have far greater Schrade knowledge (but they can't tap dance quite like me) than I do, but here's a great link for you to look up your knife. Just a quick glance tells me that your knife was made in the years 1981-83. You can probably narrow it down by looking at this site which is an excellent resource for Schrade knives.

Lucky Lindey!

The handle is made out of white Delrin, the scrim is heat stamped on there and it looks like yours was made around 1981. I'd check out the scrim section of the "collectors of Schrade" website (the "sticky" at the top of this site) or you can use the "search" function on this website to find all the information you're looking for on any Schrade model - it's a keyword search.

Congrats on your new (old) knife!

Best Regards,
Kevin

Thanks alot everyone. I don't have a digital camera unfortunately but for those interestedit is very similar to the pic Codger posted only it has 2 geese. It is the one in this link http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/scrims/pages/sc1981.htm . Thanks for directing me to the site, it gave me pretty much all the answers i was looking for. Now to condition the leather sheath and buff it up a little. For anyone exceptionally curious though, feel free to drop me a line and I'll send you some pice from my PDA.

Ok, it took me long enough, but here's some pics. I finally got a digital camera so I figured it would be good to give it some out of safe time. To recap I picked it up in a trade at an army surplus store over the summer along with a handmade knife by a fellow Wartman. It's a bit out of place in my collection but the price tag on it was for $80, don't know what it was worth but considering what I traded it seemed worth it to me. SOme of my first knives were Schrades so it appealed to me.
