Hello all, first post looking for help
I just bought a Schrade SDU-50 Ducks unlimited, very nice, in what looks like never used condition. When I bought it I realized that pushing the lockback to release the blade when it was opened was very hard. When I got home I realized that I can not push enough to make it work and I need to push again the edge of the desk to allow the blade to release.
I cleaned it with alcohol, open and close several times, but nothing change. Clearly it has to do with the force of the spring inside, but not sure how to tinker with it to loose it a little.
The blade has a great snap and lock in place without any gaps.

Any help, ideas?

The few lockback folders of mine that've had that issue all eventually loosened up with some regular use and exercising of the lock. The bearing surfaces of the lock and the blade's tang will wear a bit over time and it'll loosen up. And as mentioned above, making sure the mechanism is lubricated can help. It very likely needs oil after cleaning with alcohol, which will strip away any oil that might've been in there before.

I have not ever used alcohol on a knife - there are many cleaners that are food-grade that also work as a passive lubricant. My favorite is ballistol, but you will likely find many that fit your needs.
