Does anyone know what steel Schrade uses for the new Sharpfinger knives? I've heard that it is 440C, or similar. Does anyone know how it compares to say, Buck 420HC?

Not very well imo.Buck has the best 420HC steel you can get because of superior h.t.The new Schrade China made knives i wouldnt even put in the same arena.China does have and use some good steel, but i wouldnt count on it being in a Taylor Schrade knife.Look for an old usa made sharpfinger and you'll get a good carbon steel.

I'd recommend getting one of the old U.S. Schrade Sharpfingers. I've never been able to get Taylor Brands to tell me exactly what steel they use, or anything about heat treat either, for that matter.

I have several Smith & Wessons, which is licensed by Taylor, and my Bucks with 420hc pretty much outperforms them all, hands down.
