Greetings, friends. I am more of a modern flipper knife guy, but I was recently helping to clean out my deceased grandpa's home and found a couple of Camillus slip joint knives owned by him. One is a #27 electrician's knife that I'm pretty sure was issued to him when he was in the military in the mid 1950's. The other is more of a mystery in terms of vintage. From what I can find, it's a Sword Brand variant of their #18 large serpentine jackknife.

Both are pretty beat up. The jackknife in particular needs new scale and new blades. Both have significant blade play. I do a lot of tinkering, tuning, and modding with my knives, and I love learning new skills. I'd like to get these back to user condition to add to my EDC rotation.

That leads to my question. Do Schrade slipjoint replacement blades fit these knives? Those are the only blanks or replacements I can find online.

I already know about the hazards of disassembling a slipjoint knife, so let's omit those cautionary comments about it not being worth it. If I can't find replacements that would fit then I'll look into other options. I just want a clean, solid, functional knife that reminds me of my grandpa when I use it.

I think it is unlikely that a Schrade blade would fit. But I'm not an expert. But those blades don't look all that bad. I see no reason to replaced them. Clean them, oil them, and sharpen them. The tip on the main blade of the jack knife can be repaired. It's not hard to do.

Those types of knives aren’t like swapping blades in a spyderco or similar modern knife.
They were assembled and then some hand fitting had to be done so the springs lay flush and the action tuned.
Even if you had a blade out of another of the same brand and model, it likely wouldn’t fit perfectly without that hand tuning and finishing work.

The electrician knife is the best candidate for being able to accept a blade from a different manufacturer, as it was a standard pattern, however, it will still require hand fitting and tuning. It’s also the knife that needs a blade replacement the least, I would say it doesn’t need a new blade at all, the one it possesses is still in good condition.

The jack won’t be able to use a a grade blade without incredible luck, or a lot of reshaping of the new blade, if it will fit at all. Many things have to line up for it to even be a possibility, especially the tang area, thickness, pivot hole position and size, cam design and size, etc.

It’s possible to find a suitable replacement and or make one work, but it won’t be a simple drop in. Even if you had a blade that would drop in and work without a hitch, you would still need to repin, peen, adjust, sand, and polish the pin and bolster.

Thank you for your response. I should explain a little better. I read that there was crossover in manufacturing between Schrade and Camillus more than once over the years, which is why I was wondering if components were interchangeable.
