I was at my Grandfather's house a few months ago, and was holding my pocket knife. I dropped it, and my grandfather commented. He said "You dropped your knife!". I asked him if he had any pocket knives, he said he had one. (I knew the answer, I had seen it briefly before and wanted him to show me). I asked him if he had it on him, he said no and it became evident that he used a utility knife much more often. This made sense, seeing as how he's been a carpenter most of his life. I had only seen the knife used for food prep. I guess he thought it was a fixed kitchen knife, he was using it for food prep and didn't know how to close it
. I showed him of course. (This was the first time I saw it, now go back to the second time) He told me if I found it, I could have it.
Naturally I found it. So I took it home, and gave it a further examination. It had a good amount of wear, with scratched blade, dirty handle scales, almost rounded tip, and the emblem was gone. But it had a sharp edge.
Story over, time for the review.
It has a 2.8 inch stainless blade (presumably 400 series), brown Zytel handles, and the blade itself seems to be spear point, maybe drop point. Can't tell.
It opens very smoothly, more so than some of my other better quality knives.
It feels nice in the hand, and does not have that "cheap" feeling you wou expect.
Lockback. There is some play on mine, but that is probably because this knife has seen much use.
The tang stamp reads: "SCHRADE+" and below that reads "U.S.A. SP3"
The blade got kind of dull after a while. I passed it a few times through one of those Smith's Pocket Sharpeners. Instant razor edge.
I use this knife for dirty tasks, and I am not afraid to use it "hard". (Whittling)
Overall, I love this knife.
