Who has a Schrade Spitfire? I haven't heard anything about it on the forums. I picked one up a few weeks ago and I have been very impressed
with it. The Spitfire is a very small knife with an OAL of 5" and a blade just under 2". The knife does not have a clip but it has a really neat detachable lanyard. The blade has a dagger style grind not unlike the Spyderco Native. The scales are black G-10 and the blade is ATS-34. The lock is an Axis style lock. It's a very secure lock but it does have a bit of vertical play. The knife came sharp out of the box and I have used it for general utility.

I think the Spitfire compares very nicely to the Spyderco Dodo or Al Mar SLB. The are all wide bladed knives in the 2" range that are very handy for everyday tasks. I think that the Schrade is under the radar because it is so different from the rest of that companyis offerings. Also it is unusual to start a new line of knives with a model in the 2" range.

i just posted in the schrade forum a minute ago! i have the same problem with the vertical play. thought about sending it to the factory, but if you've got it too, i'm sure it would be pointless to get it replaced. the lanyard detachment is definetly cool. i loop it around my belt loop and keep the spitfire in my pocket. nice alternative to the usual clipped carry. love the handle, feels much more secure than the S.L.B or dragonfly. vertical play sucks, though.

Al Mar has much better quality knives than Schrade. I bought the Al Mar S.L.B., and wrote a review for it under the testing and reviews forum. See how it compares

That is generally true, but the Spitfire is a knife aimed at a much higher end of the market thatn most Schrade offerings. Also, it should be noted that the Spitfire is using a new lock mechanism while the SLB uses the tried and true liner lock. I owned an SLB and I own a Spitfire. The fit and finish are very comparable.

I read your post in the Schrade Forum.

Man, that really sucks. Blade wobble seems to be a hallmark of Schrade's modern folders, so in a way it doesn't surprise me. This is why I tend to stay away from the brand except for a few of their traditional slipjoint pocketknives I own.

It seems like the folks at Schrade have forgotten they even have a Forum here, so you'll probably never get a response to your post. If you're unhappy with the Spitfire, I'd call them and see about sending the knife in for warranty service or just return the knife back to the dealer and get something else.
