I am a beginner collector of Schrade knives, mostly fixed blades?i have 8 or 9 really clean unused examples.I also have 2 case xx knives in my collection. My question is yesterday I picked up a really sweet Schrade USA multitool on the Louisville Craigslist.I think it's a ST1.It has a nice leather pouch and appears completely unused. I gave the guy 20 bucks for it.I looked it up and I think the last retail was 79.95.Should I use this thing?I could probably use a good multitool in my boat. Or should I put it away.I know I'm the only one that can really answer this but what do y'all think?

G'day Samjoe, I keep one in my car, one in my caravan, and one in my prospecting pack when I'm out in the bush...I use them all for a million small jobs that come up, particularly the pliers...I have given a set to each of my friends through the years as well...they hate it as every time they use them they tell me they have to think of me...Lol...for reasons best known or least known to collectors they rarely bring anything like their RRP particularly after Schrade closure...they are substantial and well up to smaller tasks..never had a problem....I recommend you use yours and enjoy it...dont think they will ever have a collector value...particularly as Taylor has muddied the waters with his inferior versions...I know as the Australian Army bought some for its Diggers...obviously the tender went to the lowest bidder....anyway on our Australian Military bladeware site its now a joke amongst Australian diggers how their issued Taylor clones break first use..they throw them away, and get a Leatherman or such for their overseas postings....can you imagine needing one in an emergency and having to depend on one...?...enjoy your ST1 its one of USA Schrade's best kept secrets..Hoo Roo

what you could do is look for a used one and then collect the first one and use the second. course that is how collecting begins

I use mine all the time. It's an excellent multi-tool. I'm with Larry and Delmas both. Use it if it's your only one and try to find a second one at the same price if you feel a desperate need to become a Schrade collector.
