Hello all, I'm a newbie here I just learned that Schrade has gone/will go out of business. Is this true, or have they merely been bought out? I'm a fan of Schrade knives, I believe they offer good quality for a decent price. And as a follow up has anyone tried out the XT1B yet?

Yes Dallas, in July of 2004 they were forced into bankruptcy. The company was dismantled piecemeal to assure that it could not be resurected in any form or fashion. All of the intellectual property was bought by the former Taylor Cutlery, now Taylor Brands LLC., who is contracting with the chinese to produce reproductions of popular Schrade knives. The reviews of the chinese reproductions that I am reading are not flattering. I cannot say personally, because I have none. I am sure that at some point in the future some slick ebay seller will catch me drunk or asleep at the wheel, and I will end up with one. I will then have the opportunity to do an indepth review ending with destructive testing.

PS- Someone post a link back to LT's last explanation of events please?

Many thanks, for the link. I've has a XT2B for awhile and love it. I hadn't heard anything about the XT1B. I've got a line on one and will pick it up. Thanks again.
