Just trying to keep this Forum alive.....

Anyone have any information about this model? When produced, when stopped, fit and finish?

Hope someone has any info at all.

Thanks,
Bill

By SS825, I assume that you mean the 825 stockman, stainless steel blades. That's the closest one I can find in my 1963 Schrade Walden catalog.

In this older catalog, it was listed and pictured as the #825RB, the "RB" meant "Razor Blade" Stainless. This was apparently the first use of this particular stainless steel formulation, with satin finished blades and special "razor edge" honing.

The specifications are listed as follows:

No. 825 RB
"Razor Blade Stainless"
Slim Premium Stock
3-9/16" long
Turkish Clip, Sheepfoot, and Spey blades.
Unbreakable Staglon Handle
Weight per assortment (3 knives) 1 pound, 4 ounces

This was problaby the first time that this knife was produced with the "Razor Blade" Stainless blades. The catalog indicates that the knives would not be available until 1965.

They were available in a cardboard display box with 3 knives, each in an individual plastic flip-top box. The display incorporates the picture of a man shaving with the words:

NEW
Razor Blade Stainless
Pocket Knives
Cuts Cleaner/Lasts Longer
Just Like Stainless Razor Blades!!!

There was also a smaller pattern available, the 855RB, similar pattern but 3-1/4" closed length with pen blade in place of sheepfoot.

Schrade may have been capitalizing on the (I believe) then recent introduction of stainless steel razor blades to the market in promoting the knives this way.

The retail price for the 825RB was $7.95. The same knife in carbon steel was the 895, which retailed for $5.35.

I think that the 825 was kept in the Schrade line until circa 1983, when the entrie "open stock" line was discontinued.

They have made the same pattern in the Uncle Henry line and it is still in production. Essentially the same knife but with imitation stag handles.

Hey, thanks for all the information. :)

I saw one on Ebay, and was wondering about it. It is stamped SS825 on the tang, it is etched "Razor Blade Stainless" on the main blade, and it even says "Stainless" in script on the shield.

Sounds like your thoughts about promoting Stainless during that time are right on the money.

The item number is.....2200665160....if anyone is interested.

I'm not affiliated in any way. I was just interested.

I have one of the 895s, I like the jigged delrin more than the saw-cut on the Old Timers, The Turkish clip slender pattern is quite nice with all nail nicks made for the right hand.

I also have an Old Timer in that pattern, 89OT I believe, but would have to check, I did a search on the web and found a diferent knife for that model, Blazer, similar to the 8OT but with a serrated sheepfoot.

I jigged the handles with a dremel and it lost some color but looks fine to me, I guess that ruined any collector value though. This one is in Schrade+ stainless despite being from the OT line, I belive it´s discontinued.

Edited to add:

I Checked the markings in my OT stockman, it´s 98OT.

How ironic...

Just arrived in the mail today, an ebay auction I won for a schrade walden 825 stainless !

Blades are in overall good shape, the sheepfoot's a little rounded. It still has the 'razor blade stainless' etching on the main blade. I'm used to seeing the other one with the picture of the razor blade on it. Blades have tremendous snap.

Absolutely my favorite pattern!!!

Yeah, the Old Timer version of this pattern has been discontinued for awhile - it had the SS blades.

I agree the older "open stock" models with the antique bone style jigged delrin are more attractive than the OT handles.

I actually have an older (late 1940's to 1950's) version of this same knife with REAL jigged bone handles and stainless steel blades. I believe it even has milled liners.

If anyone has particular favorites in this pattern, I would enjoy hearing about them.

Untill recently, my EDC was a 897UH. "Let me borrow your knife." Then a snapping sound and a "Ooops!". One of my workers tried to use it as a screwdriver to loosen a hose clamp. Dangit!! Now I have 2/3rds of an 897. Guess I'll trash it and buy another...... if I can find one. Anyone here need a project/parts knife?

Thanks for the list. I have a couple of 895s and 896s that I just love and alternate them in my EDC.

Anyone have any info on a carbon steel models with a "bird vent hook"?
