It seems like my lucky day..............my lovely wife just came home with a couple of pre-christmas toys! :D
She managed to grab a screaming deal and knowing my addiction and interest in Schrade esp since they went down............2 Schrade combos, The Beast 470 and a bonus Old-timer 120....she only paid $15.00ea  at K-Mart!
Nice surprise...........anybody own one of those "Beasts"?

Kap

Kap, I picked up a 47OT Beast and also a 43OT pocket beast. The former is quite aptly named I think. It is not one to try to carry with you into a restricted area like a courthouse or airport! UHfan advises to keep it checked for locking, as they have a tendacy to come unlocked at inopertune times. A simple crink ( :D ) of the locking bar fixes it. The 43OT pocket Beast is a scaled down version and has a chance of riding in a pocket, unlike it's big brother. I would say you got quite a deal on yours! Congratulations! And also on having such a thoughtful wife! Oh, btw, there is also still a 49OT Rhino lurking out there to complete the series. It is a guthook version of our 47OT's.

Codger, thanks for the reply......yes it is aptly named.... BEAST  .....I don't own anything like it!
I can see using this as a great all purpose yard knife.
Of course that little freebie Pal is always welcome.
I never paid ton of attention (despite owning a few)to the little under 3" Old Timer pocket knives but lately I have been carrying one and using it......the OT's look better in the smaller sizes for some reason...esp the little single blade models.......
I put the blade of one of the Pal's in cider vinegar and it produced a great patina. :D

I carry a little OT when I am not doing construction work. Just right for the pocket! I replace it with the larger stainless 897UH's when season starts for heavier work. The most basic tool ever devised by mankind describes them very well indeed. ;)
