I aquired this folder knife after my great grandfather passed away. I do know it is made by the emperior schrade company being 2004 or before. Id like to learn everything i can i.e - value, care/cleaning, manufacture date, etc.

look at the main blade and it will have some stampings on it. this will tell you what it is. if it has Schrade Walden on top then USA 834UH under it then it is of Schrade manufacture before 1973. plus might have Stainless inbetween those depending on year of make. if it only has Schrade+ then USA 834UH it is after 1973.

This pattern was in the catalogs from 1989 until 2004. It is in stainless steel. It needs no care beyond a drop of light oil in the joints occasionally, and the same kind of sharpening techniques for any knife. Value can only be known by comparing to completed sales on ebay. The value is not high beyond sentimental value. Value questions are frowned upon in this forum. It is a nice little knife. Enjoy.

It's a pretty common Schrade knife as the middleman stockman was a pretty popular model. Like stated previously it was made for quite a few years. To add on the info the handles are made of delrin/staglon which is imitation bone and I believe the nickname was Junior Rancher but not 100% posititve. Pretty handy knife and reliable as well.

Staglon name evolved to refer to Delrin molded and dyed to mimic stag antler, not bone.

The 833UH is a two bladed version called the Prairie Jack.
The same Flame was used for the; 33OT, 833UH, 34OT and the 34UH.

I like to use the Give-away knives for reference; all have date etched blades.

The 834UH was a 34OT with simulated Stag handles.
As Codger states; with "Delrin molded and dyed to mimic stag antler".
