Schrade Uncle Henry LB5 question

I am a brand new member and have a question about the value of a Uncle Henry I own. The knife is unopened and in its original box, completely as packed by Schrade. The knife has not been used or carried, I mean the blade edges have not touched anything! Totally factory fresh.

The model is "Schrade LB5 Smokey Lockback"...what is it worth? Is this a collectable?

I was a little shocked to click on the Schrade website link to find they have sold off the assets of the company. I am not sure how long they were in business but it always seems sad to me when an American company making a good quality, traditional product goes under.

With many thanks in advance,

Mike

Welcome to our forum, Streetshot..

I just visited Ebay, which is a pretty good way to determine knife values. LB5s such as yours (box, sheath, paperwork- mint condition) seem to be selling for 26 to 29 dollars plus postage. This is less than the MSRP of $50 in 2001. And there seem to be scads of them out there. The LB5 was in production for 20 years.

Is it a collectible? Depends on who you ask, even here. I have one or two put away, one in a Schrade display case, but like some of these guys, I wanted one of everything Schrade made. I have no real hopes of these two knives increasing wildly in price. The LB5 was in production for 20 years. But sentimental value, the pride of ownership? That's more intangible.

Others will here may share their opinion with you....

Schrade was in business for one hundred years, although that is only a part of the entire Schrade story.

Any further questions, just ask, Mike.

Phil...

Many thanks for your reply...its just the information I was looking for. Funny, I tried an ebay search and found nothing under LB5 and Schrade...better try again with my glasses.

Again, thank you for your kind help.

Best,

Mike

I have been watching ebay and noticed the prices are coming back down. You can find some great prices unless it is an item that was only manufactured a couple of years. Schrade made huge amounts of most of the OT and UH patterns so I doubt they will ever increase much in value. I have been able to find many at flea markets for great/good prices.
You can collect anything. Remember the beanie babies? I never did figure that one out. A cheap, useless stuffed thing and people were paying crazy amounts for some of them. Even if my Schrades do not increase/maintain value at least I can always take one out and use it.
