There is currently a knife on the auction site that has had the original Schrade name, the USA, and the model number ground off. Over the top of the grind a larger font "SCHRADE" was stamped into the metal. Any idea what occurred here? Was this at the time of the Taylor sell off? Thanks.

I think it would be allowed to post a picture, so long as you don't directly link the auction.

Ya I know, a photo would be nice but it's more trouble than I care to mess with right now since I've never posted a pic on this board, etc. I just thought an explanation would suffice as I've seen this issue come up before with Schrade knives, but I couldn't seem to find it in the archives. I just figured someone would know that's all... Thanks.

But without a picture this is the classic "I have a knife in my pocket... what is it" question. Go to the auction, click on the picture, save it to your computer, open a photohost site like tinypic.com, upload it there, copy the

The photos for this particular knife are hosted by Auctiva, which as you probably know, are protected and one is not allowed to copy them. As I indicated in the first part of my original message, I had thought that this was a relatively common thing as I seem to remember it being discussed here in the past. Unfortunately I don't seem to recall however the explanation for such a thing and was not able to find an answer in the archive. I didn't place a link to the auction for fear of violating the rules of the board. Apparently I was mistaken in thinking I could learn more about this by providing a simple explanation. I regret posting the question and any angst that I may have caused as a result.

You may post a link to the auction after it's ended. That's done in the forum here frequently.

No angst, excuse my crass reply, not a big deal anyway, but the knife itself is a lot more useful than a description of a ground off tang stamp with SCHRADE stamped over it. That has not been discussed to my knowledge. A ground off tang stamp means factory second, if it was done at the factory. They did not stamp over it in the examples I've seen. Hopefully you will post afterwards, although I'm sure you are interested in bidding if its a real Schrade. Or email someone the auction number (click on anyones name in their post) if you want to know. Everyone that has replied here can probably tell in about 2 seconds if the knife is authentic or not.

if you have the snipping tool you can get give a look at the knife it copies no matter what the site thinks.

Perhaps it is browser specific (I doubt it), but I am able to do a "save as" to my computer on any image in an ebay listing, whether ebay had hosted it, or Auctiva. I use chrome. Madtrapper, click on my username here and send me a pm with the listing URL, and I will see that some pics appear here in this thread, if you like.

Not made in China. I've learned that it is a legitimate Schrade USA knife and not anything tied to selling to Taylor. It is simply a factory 2nd. Apparently factory 2nds were processed in this manner. Like I mentioned earlier, I think that this has been covered somewhere in here before...

Factory Rejects have been discussed, but having SCHRADE stamped on the ground off area is a new one, at least for me. I've seen them just ground off, and seen some with XXX stamped over the original stamp. But seeing the knife tells the story more than the description of the stamped area.

If it looks anything like this, then it is a Taylor Brand knife. Not ground off and restamped, just a Taylor. Is someone pulling your leg about the description?
