A chart with various Schrade Stamps, with comments
============================================

*Here is a basic list, more for folding knives. There are some variations to be sure. Fixed blade knives have a layout all of their own. This chart has appeared in the forum before, but I could not find it. Thought some of the new members might find it handy.

This list is pretty good though.
Here are a few of my notes:
#6 are the oldest of the SCHRADE WALDEN STAMPS, usually will not have pattern number on back side, and might have stamping on all blades.
#7, #8, and #9 are the most common SCHRADE WALDEN stamps, most will have the pattern number on back side of master blade.
#10 is uncommon, used on 898UH and 886UH, and a few Special Factory Orders.
#11 is the most recent stamping and very common, with either SCHRADE or SCHRADE+ (stainless)
#12 is a three line stamp, older than most two line stamps show the pattern number on front
#12 there are a few earlier SCHRADE NY knives where Schrade still stamped the pattern number on back like a SCHRADE WALDEN stamp.

One of the first things I noticed about Schrade stamping, was the difference from pattern to pattern. They do not all have the same progressions of different stampings from year to year.

* A basic rule of thumb - If you have a knife with STAMP #1 though #5, that knife should be sent to THAWK for verification.

I guess anyone can make a mistake. He actually meant to say that you should send them to me. Thanks!:)

Correct, please PM me for TongueRiver's Kansas address. :thumbup:

Thats really handy how can we keep this around for reference?

You can copy it to your picture folder in your computer, or post it in the sticky up top.

It's not in Kansas anymore, Toto, but it sure is old!:eek:
It's not in Oregon anymore, either, Dorothy!:D

Usually accompanied by hammered pins, and hand-jigged bone;

I vote for an really high export tax on Schrade Cut Cos being taken across the border into CANADA! :p

UNLESS... pictures like these are posted here! Yowza! Thanks Waynorth! :thumbup::)

I am an American citizen, Codger. When I move back, they're comin' with me!!:D
Hal, I hope I'm not hijacking!! I thought I'd post a pic of each stamp that I have. I don't have a Germany stamp:( , or an S.C.Co. with serifs :(:(! Anyone??
That Jack above is number 2. Here's number five;

Another fresh from Oregon! (You really oughta go to that show!)
Stamp number 4. Note the pre-peachseed bone jigging, so this is an earlier number 4.

This is also a number 4. This finer jig is what I refer to as peachseed, which seems to have come along a little later, and extended into the Schrade Walden era.
I've been looking for one of these toothpicks forever!
Handles are great, blade's good, but down a little. Again, from this last Oregon show.

Hello all .I think you Canada mixed up with Australia and a particular Larry involved .
Thanks thawk I have a Barlow 206 with high carbon steel and was wondering the age .
I have been reading for a few months just to get near some of the info you blokes have to share and I thank you all regards Jamo .
I'm still trying to work out how to post some pictures.

Charlie - The actual stamp examples are a good idea. Welcome Jamo.

To post pictures, get a Photobucket account. It's free. Once you have your pictures hosted on a website, it is fairly easy to surround them with image codes to display them on the forum. There is an "Insert Image" option that makes it easy.

I can tell you though, the Schrade 206 was mfg from 1976 to 1973. Schrade did not provide a stamping method to identify a specific year.

Thankyou Thawk I was only guessing due to the Barlows bolsters being the same as another scrimshawed barlow that I did have the date off .
The photo bucket sounds like just what I need . Looking forward to sharing some .Thanks

O.K. Hal, thanks for the go ahead.
Here's a late 1920s-early 1930s stainless Stockman, with all blades SS marked on the reverse.
