I know this is off the Schrade subject but I trust your judgement. Has anyone here had experience with Bear and Sons Cutlery. I like knives with the staglon handles and made in the USA and they fit the bill. What is their quality like compared to USA Schrade? Thanks.

I had a couple of Stockman pattern folders a few years back and did not like them, the overall finish seemed like they were made offshore as opposed to being made in the USA. The blades were rough cut they had gaps between springs and liners, and the handles were poorly fitted, not nearly up to USA Schrade quality, JMHO.

I had a usa made bear and son barlow I got from smkw a couple of years back and I loved it. It had good fit and finish and a lot of snap. BUt thats the only one I had and I did like it. It was a special edition or something so maybe that has something to do with it having a little better quality than russell's experience but dont take my word for it like I said I only had one.- hope that helps a little- Joel

I collect USA Schrades mostly, but have maybe six Bear & Son knives. My experience with Bear & Son is that they make a good knife. All of mine are mint, so not having used one, my comments are limited to kit and finish, which is at least equal to Schrade.

jpet,

I have a couple the Bear MGC USA and Hunter (Bear & Son USA) in the North American Hunting Club "Heritage Collection". They are nice sturdy made knives.

Have the Schrade+ USA Curly Maple Drop Point NAHC as well but don’t have a picture of it, yet.

Finally, took a picture of that NAHC Schrade Curly Maple Drop Point Hunter. Plus, another North American Hunter (Bear & Son, USA).

I have the Bear and Sons upswept Skinner. The Sharpfinger Lookalike. For the longest time I could not get that thing sharp. Then I learned how to sharpen on Bladeforums and now I like it. Only reason I bought it is because I cant find an OldTimer Sharpfinger.

I have looked at the Bear and Son's knives, I think they look ok I have not bought one yet as I feel that they are a bit pricy

The Bears I got are part of the NAHC Heritage Collection. Don't know if I'll purchase another or not. Buy too many Schrade-Waldens and Case now as it is.
