Before I write a novel asking questions I thought I'd take the easy way and ask, besides the 148L and the 148S how many versions of this knife are there.I've got 5 shrades and one Craftsman, all the same blade pattern but all different in handles, guards, and markings.Toby

Well, you partially answered your own question. At least five, but.... do you have one from 1954 with the stratawood handle? One from '59 with the wonda-edge serrated blade? One with the tungsten carbide blade? With red and white candystripe handle? Black, red and white handle? One stamped "Official Boy Scouts"? In 1961 you could have gotten one with a wondawood handle ("Hunter's Mate"). And you do know the 498L and 498S of the '49ers" benchmade series were the same pattern? Do you have one marked J. C. Higgins? Ted Williams? J.C. Penny? Hoffritz? Ward? I am sure there are a few more out there.
