Anyone else got one of these? I found one a few months ago at an antique store marked down to $18. It's a heck of a classy knife, full blades and good snap.

Post pics if you've got 'em!

This ones not a Walden, but the 293 is a nice looking trapper.

This one has Delrin handles. A Schrade Walden might have bone stag handles if if was made before 1960. Some of those had a sabre grind on the clip blade with fancy bolsters.

Mine is in Delrin as well, which I believe dates it between 60 and 72? The Everlastingly Sharp was the stainless, yes?

There were some composite handles prior to 1960. Delrin came out with the Old Timers, Uncle Henry, and the Open Stock knives around that time. Everlastingly Sharp was a trademark they used from way back when, in the 1920's (maybe earlier), and does not have anything to do with stainless steel. They used it on packaging, and sparingly on blade etches.

It was really overused as a blade etch after the company went bankrupt in 2004, and replicas were made with nostalgic Schrade Walden stamps.

I, too, have a Schrade Walden 293. I picked it up used at the Austin Gun Show a few years back. It has a great patina on the blades, and is a good "user." Would supply pics, but I'm sitting in Northern Iraq right now and the knife is back home in Texas.

The 293 is a great pattern. IMHO its the perfect size.... I've had this old Walden for quite a few years, and ironically, its been in my pocket for the last week, and is sitting next to me as I type this. Its an older picture and not very good, but it will work. Enjoy your new knife. With a little work you can get a very nice edge on it

Guys...those are absolutely awesome knives...they really are!
Frosty...I hope you can post a pic...if not-e-mail me your photo, and I will put it up in here for you Sir!

I picked this one up recently. It was well used before I got my hands on it and hope to do the same before I pass it on.

Here are a couple of photos of a 293 that I would like to rejuvenate but don't know the best way.

The scales are very dry and checked. It seems like the knife must have been laying out in the sun to get in that bad of shape.

Any suggestions about how to protect the scales from further deteriorating would be appreciated.

I agree that the scales appear to have been damaged by UV from sunlight. Further damage should not occur if the knife is kept in a normal environment (out of direct sunlight).
