As thawk did in another thread came across a Schrade-Walden 294 with Delrin handles, the last time I can find them listed in the Catalogues available was 1977.

There are some seen nice examples seen just recently with bone handles, this is the first time I have seen any with the Delrin jigged handles.

Does anyone know when the transition date was made between using bone handles and replacing them with the Delrin variety.

I think mine and yours may have come out of the same batch Russell. If you just got one was it from BigBub###? Mine was... and NIT like yours. Funny we recently got the ones that are in bone as well.

I only have the Schrade Collectors site for catalog reference, and I see a Bone Stag in 1957, and Stagged in 1958. I do not see any listed after 1966. Where did you see one from 1977?

Thanks for your comment Roland most appreciated.

thawk! you are correct it was the price list from 1966, not paying attention when typing!

the seller was the same as you mentioned above.

If these knives are from that period or earlier 40 years + NIT, If thats the case I'm surprised they came up for the price they did, If 1966 was the last time they were made I'm sure that must of been very close to the time when S-W changed over from Bone to Delrin scales. maybe the Delrin versions were not manufactured for that long making them somewhat a rarity.

I find this an interesting knife. I really like the pen blade on there for looks. I also wonder when the dog bone shield and the half sabre ground blade changed too. They pictured them like that and changed the verbage from bone stag to stagged in 58. I'm not sure if that is significant or not.

No kidding, I've been eyeballing every SW and SNY tube knife on Ebay for over two years, and the 294 is uncommon compared to the 293. These are the first two delrin ones I've seen.

Oh yeah, when I saw the seller had two of them for sale, and one was gone, I told him to send me the good one. :D

When I saw the knife come up the first thing I looked for was a swedge on the main blade, as per the original sabre cut blades, nothing in the way of a swedge at all. bought the knife anyway and started doing a bit of research, didn't seem to be that common as discussed above. almost wanted to get the second one, when I looked again it had gone. :( :D Glad to see you picked it up thawk.
