Arnold, never seen an etched blade BH 171, mine have the stamped tangs, I understand that with an etched tang like this one, they were knives replaced by the factory under the guarantee, the factory would know if one of these knives was returned again that it already had been replaced. maybe that's common knowledge though.

I saw that it is an etched stamp. What tipped me to a difference is the different alignment of the second row.The NY didn't line up like mine.Arnold

Arnold, actually I had a picture on my computer at work, the NY is directly under Schrade, with the U in USA under the dash in between
Schrade-Walden.

What I noticed was this knife lines up with the N under the RA in Schrade instead of under the H as on mine.I tried to post an example but it keeps moving my letters around.Arnold

the tang on this one is the same as others I have seen, not layed out like the one above.

The owner of this knife sent me the serial number. It is 08217.That makes this a strange bird.Rusty, your BH has a stamped tang and I show it as 08881,my closest number 03640 is stamped. This knife falls in between the two and has an etched tang.I think Tony might have done alright after all.Arnold
