I've never cared much for those little metal toy trucks that come with a knife in the bed. Seems so very Smokey Mt... and I know case likes this. But this caught my eye on ebay. Who knows, is this a real Schrade-Walden era factory collectible, or something off-the-wall?

Edited to add.. this is a coin bank, not a toy, I just re-read the description.

These were sold in the 90 tys. Ertl ( written like Coca Cola ) with a Chevy logo on the box. Attached is a picture of an accident. No one was hurt but Lincoln and Washington were inside at the time. Wow it has been a long day. LT

Rich 'cracks' me up. like in 'accident'. :p

I tried to bid one of those a while back, and got left in the dust around $80 or something.

Neat , anyway.

I passed on the Ebay offering, but a knife and gun show netted me quite a few Schrades (among other finds) this weekend, CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. Here it is, crusing on my man cave coffee table next to an old bayonet... the 100 year Ford truck/Schrade heritage knife set. Brand new in the box, never opened or messed with... $35. One half what I see it routinely sell for on Ebay. It is very nice.

Not trying to brag here.. but I cleaned up on what I bought. A point I constantly try to make here.. there is more than one way to collect knives and find Schrades, than on Ebay or other web sales sites.

I know not every state is as filled with hunters and outdoorsmen (read that: Knives) as Michigan. Michigan is an old state as well.. not like 'newer' ones as Arizona, Florida, places like that, where when people move there, they have the garage sale and sell off stuff before packing up. Lot's of old, old hunting or fishing camps, lake cottages, summer homes here abouts... all hold old guns, outdoor gear, knives, ect.

But it's a thrill to be able to find these things, handle them, examine them in detail, before plopping down the cash. No last minute sniping. Just you and the seller, mano a mano, making your best deal.

Zoom zoom!

Yep, it is a left handed sheath, very nicely made. I didn't get that at the gun/knife show, my brother found it for me as a gift. Would be a good sheath, with that extreme forward cant, to have Sheathmaker do a rendition of it for something really fearsome like a Schrade MountainLion. Five layers of thick leather down there at the tip. Oh, heck, I'd like to send Paul all my knives and all my cash and turn him loose in any event.

I'm not good at all on bayonet ID! I used to collect big military knives, a few bayonets and stuff... but that really takes a lot of room to store and display. Best place to find out about one is Frank TZ's Military knife forum over at KnifeForums.com.

Back to my first post... funny how my attitude shifted 180 degrees about those truck & knife sets. I don't think I'll try and collect every one SMKW and Case ever put out though.
