I have a couple of Schrade Walden large folding hunters, the two blade kind. Love those big rascals.

One is flat ground, and the other is saber ground, on the clip blade that is.

Did Schrade change grinds back and forth, or is a particular grind indicative of a time period?

Anybody know?

I have had a few like that, they were old 70's store stock and similar years, so I figure they just switched back and forth between grinds every one and a while.

The saberground blades are the earliest. By the time the 25OT and 125OT arrived, all the hunters, including the 225H (H stands for lanyard hole) had flat-ground primary blades. The 225 H ran concurrent with the Old Timers for a number of years. The "cut" in the 1962 catalog suggests the 225 still had saberground primary blade, and the model number was 225H ST, for bone stag, meaning bone. The 1963 catalog shows it in Delrin, but it still had saber grind. In the 1964 catalog I can just make out "Folding Bowie Hunter" blade etch, but cannot tell whether the blade was saber ground or not, although I suspect any saberground blades were leftovers. I believe this was the first year for the analagous 25OT Old Timer, which I am sure never had saberground blades, and probably were absolutely identical to the 225H's except for the tang stamp.
