Saw a 885uh on the ebay being advertised as made in Walden, N.Y., but reads as a regular Schrade-N.Y. USA 885. The other two blades have UH on them. How can you tell which factory these came from? It does look like a older knife, but does not say Walden on tang. So, is it only a Schrade-Walden if marked as such, or is there a time they were marked Schrade, but produced in Walden N.Y.,or is this Schrade Cutlery Co.? So much to know, seems every year these changed something. But they are great knives! Thanks for your help-uhman

Good question...

Schrade used the "Walden" in their tang stamp until about 1973 or so, then just Schrade, NY and variations on that.

That being said, I believe that knife was made in Ellenville. (Someone step in if I am making a fool of myself)

Here's a little history that can be found at Larry's site:

Schrade History

Today, however, it is very difficult to tell where more recent knives were made. With the glut of "knife parts" that were put into play after the closing, you could have older parts being made into new knives. It gets very confusing sometimes...

Hope that helps a bit.

FWIW, I have seen other Schrade knives on e-bay labelled Schrade Walden also. I think that these items have been listed by individuals who are not generally knife collectors or do not know about the Schrade. Schrade Walden connection.

In addition to the genuine articles, there are a fair amount of Schrade Walden stamped knives listed and sold on Ebay as the pre-1973 vintage, when in fact they are not. I don't have the determining factors, but a pretty good gut feeling if I see the picture and especially if there is packaging.
