Greetings,

I'm hoping you all might have some information reguarding a Schrade knife I have. I don't have any pictures to post at the moment, but I'll try and describe it.

I have a knife that was my great-grandfathers florists knife, the handle is about 4" long, made from ivory, has sterling silver rivets/cord loop, and is stamped with FTD's trademark, "Say it with Flowers" on one side of the handle. The only other thing stamped on it as far as I can tell is Schrade Walden N.Y. on the blade. There also looks to be brass inside the handle as well.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

-chris

*edit* forgot to mention that it's a folding blade

Schrade did not make regular edition ivory knives your knife is imitation ivory ( ie Celluloid or delrim most likely cell from the time frame ).I cannot tell with out a pic or more of a description. However Schrade made several styles of florist knifes the pic is of the most common #176. You did not mention number of blades so chances are it is one. The steel in the pic is the actual die used to print the words. Schrade also made a couple of versions of the imi ivory. The older is yellower and has light lines. This knife does not a chain loop. However the other version is around here somewhere. Rather than look for it this should be close enough. These were also made under the older Schrade Cut tang as well as the newer Schrade tang along with the Schrade Walden which yours and this one are. Price varies but is from 10 to 40 dollars depending on condition and tang. Let me know if you need anything else. I hope this helps LT. PS chances are rivits are nickle silver not sterling.

Thanks for the quick response LT. I'll try to get a couple pics posted tomorrow, it's similar to the one you posted, but with a more narrow handle and a curved, non-stainless blade. I think it might be real ivory due to the lines running through it being all wavy and inconsistant, but then again, I'm no expert. Nickle makes sense for the rivets/cord loop.

In the left picture, second from the left looks just like the one I have, except for the "say it with flowers" stamp. Also, the blade on my knife has blackened with age. Looking at the imi ivory celluloid pics, it looks like the one on the left, so I guess it's imitation after all.

Thanks so much for the help getting it identified!

If I'm ever in the hospital, guys, keep the flowers, send the knives.

Thanks for bringing your question to us, Chris.

No offense Phil but any one can copy them pics out of Jimmy Sargents book bring out some of your stash. LT

Chris, welcome, that's a nice knife you've got.

LT, did I say I'm impressed, again ????. You could even have some new knives stamped "Say it with Flowers", I wonder just how many cool things you've got around hidden under the bed or something.

Phil, thanks for the pics, I don't have Sargent's book. Hey, we could all get together all our knives to put on the table and LT would beat us easy, he has the best hand and a lot of aces up his sleeve :).

My stash is mostly packed up. But here is yet another stolen pic of some florists knives, from the 2004 Sporting Knives.

The caption of the photo tells how the pale celluloid and black lettering was used to catch the eye. I guess it works. And worked for different knife companies. Second from the bottom is a Camillus.
