New to the forum so please pardon my computer and blade defiencies.Recently purchased a Schrade-Walden,N.Y.,U.S.A. No.148 for $5.00 at an estate sale. 4 5/8 inch fixed blade, nice wooden handle, aluminum pinned bolster on end.Have looked high and low for info on the knife but have been unable to learn anything about it.When approximately was this knife manufactured and is it of much or any value?I'm putting a good edge back on it and I'm making a sheath for it.Would appreciate any info which could be shared. It's a nice littli fixed blade.Thank you.

You may hit the jackpot of information here! That's probably an old knife.

Sounds and looks like you got a great find at that Estate Sale. There are a few here that would love to see a picture of it.

Is your knife like either one of these.Top knife is tang stamped 148,The bottom knife is etched 148.Arnold

Mine is a match to the top knife shown. It has Schrade-Walden,N.Y.,U.S.A. stamped on the left side, edge down, and 148 stamped on the right.Do you know the time frame of your knives?

No, if you read Michaels rant on the 148s you'll see they cover a long span. The only clue I have is the sheath. Probably late 50s.Arnold

Arnold, thanks for your response.whatever the info provided,it's certainly more than i knew before i asked.i just like to know a little background.it's a nice knife and will look even better when i finish the sheath for it.

Sorry I couldn't help you more.Welcome to the addiction. These knives get in your blood. You will find that even though there is a lot of help on this forum we still have a lot of questions on some patterns.Arnold

Arnold, boy isn't that the truth.i picked up 2 more pocket knives this weekend.both are german made.info on them is difficult to track, most written in german(i failed that class).hartkopt & co. was a huge producer for hitlers war machine for edged weapons.nice little business man's pocket knife, single pen blade, opposite side has nail file, metal diamond pattern handles.the second one was made by knecht,nachf.,2 1/2 &1 1/2 inch spear blades, then top of handle has a 1 1/4 in. corkscrew.what litlle info i could get makes me wonder if it's a wine knife.both were very affordable($6.00 for the pair)i bought them.addiction? you betchya! some time i'll tell you the story of my Pal ,no.36, navy fighting knife! Dale
