I see no US or NY on the tang stamp, is it original or new old stock, or fake? If the tang is marked US on another blade please let me know.

I also like to see the knife along with closeups of any inscription that is on it.

I haven't purchased it yet I wanted more verification from experts here.

The knife in the photos furnished by the OP is an authentic pre-1974 Schrade Walden made in the USA knife. You can bet real money on it. I have one just like it and it is a dandy.

Well one for Taylor and one for real Schrade waiting for Codger to verify, lol.

The only thing that bothered me was the lack of a USA stamp on the tang, we'll see what the expert says... ;)

Who me? Yes, it is a genuine Schrade Walden, made before 1973. The "+" mark was not used at that time. Nice example.

The 227UH hunters, although having a long run, appeared as SCHRADE WALDEN versions only in 1973, the year of their introduction. They were stamped as you see here. The stamping changed later. The OP knife is definitely authentic. My knife, which is identical, bears serial #1542 stamped into the brass liner in the well of the knife. I purchased the knife some years before the bankruptcy.

Actually the first date of production, per Robert Clemente, was 1970 when it listed for $15 (that was real money back then).

Thanks for clarifying that; I don't have Clemente's book. I was going on Dale Vincent's charts, assuming that he had checked Clemente's work, as he had mentioned it. Probably best I don't post; I seem to have made a few mistakes on this forum which I regret.

Pfffft! I am often wrong, but it doesn't stop me! :D

Robert was often wrong too. Or rather, right as far as his information went, gleaned from the first and last appearances in catalogs. It is still a very valuable easy reference guide. And very inexpensive for the information contained. Dale's lists are important too and he is very willing to update them as new information comes his way. While the history of Schrade Cut Co., Schrade Walden, Schrade Cutlery, Imperial Schrade is essentially done, it continues to be written by inquisitive collectors. Your input is quite valuable here. And we are all still learning. Without prompting, I would not have gone to the trouble to look up the history of this pattern.

I learn a ton from threads like this one. I learn most from people making mistakes and others clarifying things. Please don't stop posting because you may be wrong. You may be helping people like me learn the facts when they are presented.

Well as usual thank you everyone, hope the guy still has it and wants the same amount.
