I know this has been asked but I went to SMKW last week, they told me that they had a "few" schrade knives made in the USA. I looked at them so I took a chance on one for $17.00 it looks good number on it is SCW 11897G made in USA right on it also the "everlasting sharp" nice plastic tube instead of a box. "green bone" I liked it so I bought it. the guy behind the counter told me that this was the last of them, they were not going to be any more schrade walden knives?? anyone know what I have or what is true??
Thanks
Mike

Look over the tube insert very closely. This sounds like one of the SFO knives that SMKW had made for them by Bear & Son of Jacksonville, Alabama, stamped with the TBLLC licensed marks and sold in NOS Schrade tubes with newly printed label inserts. A picture (or scan) is worth a thousand words here!

Not a bad buy for 17.00 though, made in the USA which is a better deal than the chinese knives that Taylor Brands are selling under the Schrade name. not a genuine Schrade-Walden knife going by the part number alone. Some have stayed clear of these knives, not that they are badly made, moreover because they are not a genuine Schrade-Walden product. If Taylor are not making these anymore I would think it is just through waining sales. JMO

Michael...is it alright if I still stick to my thousand words??
Mike it was another printing oversight that they 'accidentally' put the true franchised maker inside the tube rather than outside thereby making it difficult..nay..impossible.. to know its true origins without taking the thing apart....similar to the printing oversight that had the US flag on the outside of First Production Chinese made Schrades...none of these things were ever intended to deceive....similar to that statement "I'm from Internal Revenue and I'm here to help you". I will get an account with photo bucket tonight, then Ill scan the knife. But Codger, you are correct on the insert in the tube it does say: used under license from Taylor Cutlery, LLC
On the tang the knife has schrade walden NY USA

I knew it was not an original but My curiosity got the better of me so I bought it. I still like the little knife, also Purchased a "Rough Rider" Barlow I was told that the owner of SMKW owned the rights to Rough Rider and was having them made in China, it's an interesting knife with 440 stainless blades. very well made for $7.50.

Just a brief history, in case you haven't read this a thousand times already:
The Imperial-Schrade Corporation went out of business and the corporation was officially dissolved in 2004. At the liquidation auction Taylor Brands bought the rights to the Schrade brand names and designs. Since then Taylor has been making Schrade knives under contract from a variety of manufacturers. Some have been made in the USA by Camillus and Bear, but most are imported from China.

If your's happens to have been made by Camillus, I think it would have some collector's value due to the fact that Camillus is also out of business now. If it's made by Bear, well it's not particularly collectible, but $17.00 is not a bad price for any decent USA-made knife.

I will get an account with photo bucket tonight, then Ill scan the knife.

I think if the scanned image is too large, it'll be resized automatically when uploaded to Photobucket.
