I found a fixed blade knife in my late father's tackle box. It has a brown jigged delrin handle and is marked Schrade-Walden N.Y. U.S.A.
147.
Does anyone know if this model is being made or if I can get a sheath for it, from Schrade?
I know schrade-walden ceased to exist in 1973...
thanks!

The 147 pattern hunting ( sheath knife ) was popular for years and the pattern was used with several handle materials and several of the schrade production lines. The knife came with a plain leather sheath. At present I do not believe the pattern is being used in any of the Schrades on the market.. However the 147 had a 4,1/2" blade. Presently Schrade has the model. 153 UH GOLDEN SPIKE. 4,1/2" blade. This model has a sheath which comes with a small leather pocket which holds a sharpening stone. This sheath would fill your need. Another alternative would be a generic sheath which can be purchased through Smokey Mountain Knife for about 2.50 and postage. The catalogue number is SH4 which fits up to a 5" blade. Schrades tel is 1-800-822-9259 ( Ellenville NY ). Smokey Mt is 1-800-251-9306. While the Schrade Walden tang was changed in 73 Schrade had been in Ellenville since 1958. Other than establishing that knives with this tang were made from 46 to 73 it is still the same company. In fact in 2004 they will be 100 years old. I particularly like schrades because in an era of imports they are still made in the USA by americans. I also believe the quality of the product ( still using nickle silver bolsters and brass pins ) is among the best of production knives at a reasonable price. I may be on a soap box but, if we do not support companies like schrade pretty soon we won't have them. Any company that has hats that say PROUD AMERICAN is one I will support. By the way your knife with that pattern and handle was made in the late 60 tys or early 70 tys. Your dad was a wise man he knew a good knife. BUY AMERICAN Rich Langston PS I hope this helps sorry about the speech.

lt632ret: Thanks for a speedy and very thorough, reply. My Schrade Millenium D'Holder fixed blade is the crown jewel in my collection. Hope I supported somebody when I bought that puppy..oh, my father was a gunner's mate {Seaman 1st class} on a Destroyer ( WWII ). {credited with 21 plane kills}. You can learned some stuff from a website called Ship's History ( I think ). .about what these ships did during the war. Anyway, thanks again and take care.
I am humbled to have recieved my father's burial flag at his funeral.
He also gave me his shotgun, his zippo lighters, most of all his heart,.... good looks, and humbleness...just kiddin'.

Quaffed a few at the VFW with some of them boys over the years. I did not mean to impune yours or your dads patriotic contributions or beliefs. These great heros to whom we owe so much are passing at an alarming rate I just hope we do not forget what they have given us. Always remember put your faith in your sword, your sword in your hand and place your hand upon our countrys enemys heart. Now that we have so many in harms way it is even more important than ever. Please let me know if I can ever be of assistance regarding these items or there history. Lt

Lt. Just wanted to say thanks, again. No, I did not really think were were attacking my ignorance or my patriotism. You explained it quite nicely, actually ( kind of straight to the point...just how I like it;). I just thru that stuff in about my dad because I believe the story behind a knife or its role in an historical event makes a knife more interesting. Don't you agree? stay safe, rob

Sorry I did not get back sooner I just got home. Yes I do believe the history of the piece does make it more interesting, or as I always say if they could talk what tales they would tell. Take care and as one collector to another good hunting. Lt
