I was in the auto parts store earlier and saw a very interesting knife. It was a Schrade X-timer, but looked to be an almost exact replica of the Spyderco Dyad, with the opposing blades and all. Has anybody had one of these? I've heard the X-Timers can be alright knives, but I've never owned one before...

Taylor Made, who owns Schrade and S&W offers their version
of a dyad in both brands. The major auto parts chains
i.e. Carquest and the like had a deal with the company to have them.
They aren't a hi-end knife like Spyderco or some others I've seen
but would probably function for little odd jobs without worrying
about damaging them because of their price.

I've got the Schrade... it is a beater for sure. The blades actually lock up very tight, but it won't hold an edge. It's in the box of knives that I 'lend to people'.

After Schrade went out of business Taylor bought the name and is now legally entitled to stamp it on his junky knockoffs.

Thats a shame... I'll probably pick one up anyways since its somewhere under $10 and I've always liked the Dyad design, but if its that junky its definately going into the work pants.

I just picked up a Gerber Double Take for less than $20. It's not too bad. :o
Not the best sub $20 knife I ever bought but not a total POS either.
