I have a Schrade model 858 large stockman that I purchased in the early 80's. It is an Old Timer with Schrade + stamped on the blade. I thought that only the Uncle Henry's had the Schrade + steel, yet there is a small spot of rust on the back spring. I contacted SMKW and they told me that they never heard of that pattern with the + steel and told me to keep it wrapped up and not to use it. Has anyone else heard of this knife with the + steel or has ever seen one? I would like to know if it was a factory error and the value. It has never been used and still has the owners pamphlet.

Schrade started to use Schrade + in some Old Timers around 1986.The 858OT was made up until 1986. So ,yes it is possible a run of later knives could have had Stainless blades.

In fact in that time frame some OT's were made with Schrade+,but not marked as such.

Hopefully this thread will get moved to the Schrade forum. There are others there with far greater knowledge than I.:o

Try posting down in the Collectors - Schrade subforum. If you include a closeup scan of the knife's tang stamp, I'm confident someone down there can provide more information, or at least some experienced guesses.

Could be your knife was a small run of special knives. And Schrade had a long-running tradition of mix-and-match factory errors.
