schrade's silver anniversary

Hi Jim!
Schrade was founded in 1904, and died on it's 100th birthday, 2004. 1954 would have been the 50th. It would have been called Schrade Walden then.

michael...i've noticed that you are very knowledgeable regarding schrade, so i am providing you this info....i asked the question about the silver anniversary because i have a mint 340T SS with sterling silver bolsters and shield. i purchased it on ebay in the mid 90's from an individual who told me that he was a former schrade employee and these particular knives were given to employees at a special event (maybe christmas, i can't recall). the knife is serialized 4845 and is housed in a nice wooden box. the wooden box is housed in a separate cardboard box with the 4845 number stamped on the outside of the cardboard box along with the number 34SA....in the cardboard box is a cloth bag with the words OLD TIMER Silver Anniversary. here's the quandry....the tang is schrade walden ny usa...the master blade is etched with OLD TIMER 25th Anniversary....if the blade said 50th Anniversary it would make sense...if the company was incorporated in 1904, the 25th would be 1929, and we know that the tang schrade walden ny usa started in 1948....what do you think....regards, jim

Well.... a silver anniversary is the 25th... 1984. I have one of those knives and it has sterling silver bolsters and shield and came in a blue velvet bag (knife purse). It was the silver anniversary of Schrade's Old Timer line. It should have a tiny stamp "sterling". While it is quite possible that some of the edition were handed out to employees at a Christmas party or Annual Sales meeting, they were also sold to the public. Someone with excellent photos will surely come along soon with more info.

Michael

PS- here is the knife on our excellent collector's archive site built and maintained by Larry Vickery:

G'Day Jim, I believe your knife is the 25th Anniversary of the introduction of the 'Old Timer' line in 1959. If you look at the paperwork you will see you should see 1959-1984 "Limited Edition Silver Anniversary". Its a beautifull Sterling Silver bolster with Hallmark and the Old Timer Shield on the genuine antique bone scale should state 'Old Timer' with Sterling in small letters underneath. I have #4809. Itwas obviously never made at Walden in 1984 even though tang says Schrade Walden. Box is repo of the original 1959er's as well.Hoo Roo

They are based on 34OT size right? Nice little knives, they usually sell for top dollar.

Yes, it is a 34OT. And it was their all time most popular and highest volume sold knife.

The sun is gone now. He did take it.
