Recently I reported on a beautiful stag Bowie by John Fitch I was lucky enough to acquire.
Today, in keeping with my current stag fixation, I want to tell you about a truly lovely "hunter" by Schuyler Lovestrand I just received from Les Robertson.
I'd recently visited Les' site to look into a couple of "hunters" for my collection and I was struck by both the Geno Denning "Big Boy" and the Lovestrand featured here.
I placed an order for both and I'll be reviewing the Denning in a week or two after Les receives it and forwards it to me.
In the meantime, let's talk about this little beauty.
The knife is about 8 1/4" overall and is right at 4" from tip to guard. The mirror polished ATS-34 blade is 1 1/16" wide forward of the guard. The blade is made from 3/16" stock and features a beautifully tapered tang.
The stag is gorgeous. Trust me when I tell you that the picture doesn't do it justice.
It also features discreet red liners that add a touch of elegance to the overall package.
Fit and finish is impeccable. Period. (Including the nicely made, handsome leather sheath.)
This knife has a very nice heft to it and fills the hand very comfortably. The edge is well sharpened.
I was a bit unsure how I would like a mirror polished stock removal blade.
Now I know. This was money very well spent.
Les Robertson told me that Schuyler Lovestrand was a world class maker. He wasn't lying.
