I was reading Blues post on his knife and looking at the Up and Comer thread. Schuyler would be a perfect example of what I was talking about.

Most of you have never heard of him. I gotta tell you for under a $1,000 he is one of the best in the world at fixed blades, bar none.

I have been buying knives from him since the late 1980's. While his job keeps him from making a lot of knives, all of them are exceptional pieces. His pricing is under what it should be as well.

This is a "homework" maker. If you are doing your homework you would know who Schuyler is and would have a knife on order with him. There are a lot of makers out there who have been doing it for 15 or more years and because they make so few knives a lot of collectors do not know who they are.

Oddly enough, those that do their homework know who these makers are!

Les,
In addition to great designs and excellent grinds, I always liked his "hart" logo!
I have handled several of his knives over the years and they were PERFECT!!

Only recently had I seen Lovestrand's work on the net, primarily on Les', Gary's and AZCK's sites.

Even from pix on the net I could see that there was something special in the work, but the stag (and mastodon ivory) hunters really knocked me out.

When I spoke to Les (AFTER I had already placed my order) he confirmed for me what my eyes had seen in the pictures.

Personally, I can't see how you can beat these knives for the price in terms of their workmanship. There just doesn't seem to be anything to criticize.

I don't know what the future holds for this maker in terms of price points etc.(and don't really care all that much) but every time I look at this new knife of mine there is little doubt that it would be one of the last to ever be traded or sold. It's just that nice.

If you read that as a recommendation, you're on the right track.

I talked with Schuyler last night. I just wanted to confirm the fact he is not taking orders.

Except from Loooooooong time customers.

I ordered 10 H-2 hunters last night. Delivery time is apporximately 6 months.

If you would like to order one please email me off line.

No kidding Blues! Your's, Les', and Gary's posts overcame my activation energy. I tried to buy the remaining mammoth ivory H-2 hunter from Les yesterday. But he sold it days ago. Major Bummer. I do have one on order from Les. I can wait for it. It will just make it even More special when I finally receive my Lovestrand.

Next time you find a great deal, just email me privately. Don't share the news with the whole darned Universe

I was convinced enough by what I saw on the net (AZKC, RCC, Levine's, BG, etc), and read here to jump the gun and buy a Lovestrand knife now. Les had a gorgeous persian boot knife with desert ironwood scales still available. It is a really amazing knife. Really exceptional workmanship. The handle fits my big hands perfectly. Balance is right where it should be. The blade length is 3.5 inches, OAL 7.9. The 3/16 thickness makes this small knife feel substantial. The tapered tang is very well done. The workmanship, line and form, and style are as good as I have ever seen. Tremendous value considering the quality.

Another mirror finished stock removal stainless (dirty word) steel knife. Oh My! What the heck is happening to me? First the Dennings, and now one Lovestrand and another on order. I thought I was a forged blade fanatic, but Lovestrand and Denning's work is just to good to pass up.
