So there I am at work(I am a local delivery trucker) making a delivey.Things are going slow waitng to get into the dock,so I am flipping thru my latest Blade magazine hen a guy from this shop comes up and asks if I am a "KNIFE NUT" . I say that I am a knife hoobiest, and that I am starting(SLOWLY) to make them. He asks how/what materials etc. So I tell him .He seems interested and we talk about it for a few minutes. LOng story short......just as I am closing the doors on my semi-trailer,he hands me a PLANK...thats right......a PLANK of brown MICARTA. It measures approx 3/4 by 41/2 by 48". WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He says that they used it for some machines that they made as an insulating material. I dont know jack about MICARTA but it is the same brown as a circuit board. Anyone know what type of MICARTA it could be? Any of you ever been gifted like this?? X-MAS in August

i love it when that hapens! 3/4" is a little thick buyt you can grind it down or use as a intragal handle making the guard full thickness and then grinding it down to 1/2" or 3/8" thats how i make the guard on my bushwhacker model that is in my banner. heck the price was right!

cut in half thickness and it will be perfect for slabs. It is probably natural canvas micarta, is sorta tan at first and turns a deep medium brown with age.

You can either bead blast it or polish it to a smooth finish, looks good either way.
