Scissors on SAK/MT

I'm looking into getting a decent pair of scissors for my EDC. How do the scissors on the LM Squirt S4/Micra, compare to those on the larger SAKs (e.g. Victorinox Deluxe Tinker or Wenger Evolution 14), the Gerber Shortcut, or the CRKT Cicada? I need something that will handle the heavier zip ties without killing my fingers.

For scissors, the Leatherman Micra is the one to get.

I use the scissors on super tinker, tinker delux and explorer all the time, and never got any single trouble in comfort and toughness in edc oriented cutting.. But dont take my word, since i am doing fine even with just a small classic scissors hehe.

Yeah, that's my take on itl I haven't found myself under sissored yet with my little classic.:)

The Vic scissors are great most of the time since they're already attached to a knife you probably have in your pocket. But as a dedicated scissor the Micra/Squirt/StyleCS can handle thicker/harder material because they are easier to apply more force to if that is something you need to consider. Like say, cutting a zip tie that is tight on something.
On the other hand, I find it harder to make a clean cut on a hangnail with the larger leatherman scissors. As winter comes that's probably the thing I use scissors the most for.

Although preferring a Micra for most of my keychain multitool chores, for dealing with zip ties a lot I would favor a Squirt instead because the scissor blades are a mite sturdier. Both Leathermen models have sharp scissors, but Micra delivers a finer cut on more materials (including hangnails :D), or so has been my experience.

Although I have my preference, it doesn't make a huge difference to me which one I'm using, but sometimes feelings run high. My wife, for one, prefers the S4 scissors, uses it for everything from clipping coupons to trimming her toenails. If she needs to borrow mine and all I have with me at the time is a Micra, she'll refuse to even touch it and do without instead.
But I ask; Can't we all just...get along? :)

For the stuff that I do, the scissors on my Vic Manager work just fine. But, I can see it being too small for prolonged use or more intensive tasks. Only you can decide.

I agree. If I carry a SAK with scissors, I use them a lot. In some cases it is simply easier to use scissors than a blade. But you can't apply as much force on SAK scissors as you can on the Squirt S4 for example, such a scissors based multitool is simply stronger.

I keep a pair of these in my B.O.B.

I recently tried the style cs and liked it a lot but had to send it in for warranty work as the springs were rubbing and causing a catch in the scissor stroke. Otherwise, it's a little lighter than the Micra/Squirt and I only really need the scissors, nailfile and tweezers on my keychain since I already have a Vic Soldier in the pocket. It's also a little easier to take on/off the keychain and the screwdriver at the end of the nailfile actually fits my eyeglasses screws.

All in all - I would agree - that the Classic Vic handles about 99% of the work but then on occasion I like the Micra which is generally not too far away! = Scissiors on the Leatherman Blast work pretty well too! A matter of choice!

For me the Vic Classic scissors are the best. For most of my scissor use smaller is actually better. Mainly it's trimming loose threads, or hangnails, or the odd tag removal. I regret buying a Leatherman PS4 recently, which has the same size of scissor but don't move as smoothly. I should really have tried the Micra. Damn.

I use the scissors on my LM Blast all the time and they work fine, but I prefer the scissors on my Vic Huntsman for really thin materials (like mesh, bug screen). Just less awkward.

In all honesty, none of the Leatherman offerings are as refined as the Classic. Because of its larger scissors, better screwdrivers and functional bottle opener, I prefer the Micra, but it isn't the most hand-friendly of keychain tools, especially compared to the elegant little Vic. It's a trade-off I'm willing to make for the increased utility, however. The Squirt kind of smoothes things out some, although it is still more Leatherman than Vic-like.

Give the PS4 a little time. At first I also had some doubts about it, but after a few weeks of EDC I found it to be a capable performer for the size and quite useful. You might grow to like it, too.

Nothing beats a good pair of electricians scissors. I use this model:

However for a multitool i'm going to say the leatherman micra is the best. the swiss spirit scissors are pretty awesome, the jaws don't open very far but they cut just about anything you can fit inside.

Tough blades on those and all, but the small, un-angled holes make serious cutting a pain. I have some of those (even convexed the edges) but they're painful to use on anything too resistant. I picked up a pair of these recently, though, and am loving them enough that I'm thinking of getting some kydex or boltaron pants made for them. They're made by Heritage (Klein's parent company) and are ultra sturdy. 9" OAL, with a 3" cut.

The angled oval thumb hole and full-sized lower handle really make a huge difference in comfort, and the extended shanks let you get a lot of leverage.
