During the Blade Show 2012 I attended -
WorkSharp demonstration by Bob Wulf -
and got a giveaway of the Work Sharp Retractable Honing Rod -
(battery in pic for size comparison only)
I thought it was nice and reasonably handy -
but nothing seemed to make it too superior over a simple ceramic honing rod -
Until I read the instructions.....
Instructions on how to use a honing rod?
haven't I been sharpening knives for years....?
You decide -
I have sharpened two pairs of cheap scissors with this new found method -
(actually with a plain old ceramic rod from my V-hone)
and they both were noticeably improved -
and it was so simple.
I went back the next day and spoke to Bob Wulf who did the WorkSharp demo -
he had sharpened knives for over 20 years in the meat packing industry -
he had mentioned he sharpened his wife's multi-hundred$$ scissors/shears with the Work Sharp (belt grinder) Knife Sharpener using the guide for scissors and it was very successful.
However he was not aware of the method shown in the Retractable Honing Rod instructions -
he and his wife were both pretty impressed by that.
Of course I would not risk multi-hundred$$ scissor on this and probably would prefer to use the guide on the Work Sharp (belt grinder) Knife Sharpener - but it is a very valuable piece of information and seems to have worked amazingly well with two pairs of cheapo scissors.
Hope that helps someone,
