I'm curious to know, from whom would know about something I'm needing to know...:foot:

I'm wanting to buy a minimalist 'civilian' vest-pocket Vic... And need to know if there is a size difference (in pacticular the scissor's blades, NOT OAL) of the available scissors... Are the scissors larger on the 3-3.5 inch bodies in comparison to the smaller 2.25 inch bodies?????????

Has anyone really looked into this at all???... I tried performing several 'key work' searches to no avail...

HELP!

Hi,

Just took a few measurements on the scissors on a Classic (58 mm/2 1/4") and a Huntsman (91mm/3 5/8").

Classic - Scissor OAL = 1.6"
Huntsman - Scissor OAL = 2.7"

Classic - Cutting Surface = 0.6"
Huntsman - Cutting Surface = 1"

As you can see, there is quite a difference. Hope this helps.

Joe

Joe, thank you thank you thank you!!!... Much appreciation...

Now, for a more specific question: Joe has informed of the Classic/2.25in size frames and I think I may have possibly narrowed my 'possibles' down to either the...

Ambassador @ 74mm/3.0in

OR

Compact @ 91mm/3.58in

If both of these sport the same size scissors and both are larger than the Classic..... The next step is justifying the added weight/size of the Compact...

HELP with the ongoing scissors question! Thanks!

There are three different size scissor springs available, so I'm guessing that there are three different sized scissors...

Again, I'm NOT concerned about the OAL of the scissors; but rather, I'm wanting the largest cutting edge scissors in the smallest package... This may mean being 'stuck with' the medium sized scissors, but I the small ones are simply NOT large enough for my 'needs'...

Once again, thanks for any and all feedback/input!

-Cheers!;)

A little more research:

The small scissors seem to be on the 58mm/2.28in Vics...

The medium scissors seem to be on the 91mm/3.58in Vics...

The large scissors seem to be on the 111mm/4.38in Vics...

Soooooo... The Ambassador is a 74mm/3.00in variety. So what size scissors does IT use????? And what about the 84mm Vics???... Inquiring minds want to know! :)

I don't have an Ambassador, but on the Executive, which is also a 74mm Vic, the OAL is 2-1/8 " and the cutting surface length is 3/4".

Shown in the photo is a Director, which is a "dressy" version of the Executive, with stainless steel scales instead of the traditional red Cellidor scales.

FWIW, I've carried an Executive nearly every day for decades and it's a terrific solution for small size with highly useful tools, including the scissors. When I carry an Executive along with a second, larger Vic SAK, I don't care whether or not the larger one has scissors because the Executive's scissors do anything that I have ever needed them to do.

I've never seen an 84mm with scissors, at least not in real life. I did however see a 84mm waiter with scissors bundled in with a knife lot on ebay. I would love to get my hands on 84mm with scissors. I want to do a 84mm mod basically a pseudo 84mm version of the huntsman except with three layers, the small blade being replaced by the combo tool and the canopener and bottle-opener layer removed.

Personally i find that the 58mm scissors do work but are a little too small to be really useful. The scissors on the 74mm and 91mm however work great.

Cool thanks for the info. I was curious about the 111mm scissors. I have two 111mm SAK's a OH Trekker and a Rucksack but unfortunately neither has scissors. Do you have 91mm and 111mm sak scissors? Did you take these measurements yourself or did you find these measurements referenced somewhere?
Going just by pics ( i haven't handled a 111mm with scissors) the scissors on the 111mm Outrider/workchamp look almost exactly the same size as those on the 91mm saks. That would work well for me if i modded the 111mms as i could use 91mm scissors on my 111mm saks. But somehow i suspect the measurements you posted are right. oh well...
Anybody here have side by side comparison pics of 91mm and 111mm scissors?

I measured the cutting length of a bunch of them in mm, just because it was easier to measure in mm and they are easier to compare than fractions of an inch.
