Yesterday was a beautiful 77 degrees in Georgia. Got out my Honda Shadow VLX and put some miles on my new Hard Krome American Classic pipes.

Anybody else here riding motorcycles? Don't mean to rub it in with y'all who are snowbirds. Guess you have snowmobiles....

Hey Bill:

I ride... and had Hard Kromes on my last bike, a Yamaha. Man were they loud! Are yours the same? I assume you re-jetted the carb(s) after installing the pipes?

I ride a BMW R1150R now. Stealth has gotten more important to me than noise. We should be able to ride here in Ohio pretty soon. Heck, a few hardy souls already are riding, but I like the temps to be 50 degrees or above. Guess I am turning into a bit of a wuss in my old age... :(

devo?

The National BMW Rally is being held in Lima, Ohio, this year. If that is close enough, check it out. There are usually 4000-7000 beemers of varying years and modifications, as well as vendors galore, and (in my opinion) some pretty decent folks.

If Bill Marsh would EVER finishing restoring his R69S, he might go. :p

Yea...the Rally is about 2 hours away. I've never been to one and it may be worth seeing. Last year was in Charleston which is only four hours distant, but I was on my way to the beach that weekend. I'm not really a hard-core "beemerphile" as some are. All motorcycles are good to me. :)

Just got back from a run in fact...it's a balmy 47 degrees here in the Dayton, Ohio area...:D

Of course, Nasty's in SOUTHERN Ohio, midst the orange groves and mangos. See the canal? It's got gators. They lose small dogs from time to time.

Now that I see Nasty's bike, I want to get out the wax and do a little more cleanup. Here's my Honda Shadow. Missing the right side cover (fell off and when I went back to get it a car had run over it). New one on the way. Also my 1959 BMW R69-S. Had it in a garage and there were some leaks :( . Well, got my rust removing electrolysis system going, here is a good test for it.

Had the Beemer since 1970. Traded a widow-maker 1955 Vincent Black Shadow for the Beemer.Beemer had an American side car on it. Didn't like it and sold it. Also got a 1945 Army 500cc Tirumph. Just out of the cosmoline. Sold it also and got more than the "Bloody Vin" was worth.

You can see by the tag it has been about 20 years since I rode it. Should be able to get it running. The engine kicked over fine. Didn't try to gas it up. The carbs needed rebuilding when I last rode it and the fuel shutoff needs new cork seals.

Anyhow Kis has embarassed me into beginning the restoration. First stop is a good wash job.

And Devo/Jeff, yeah the pipes are loud, but not as loud as I had hoped. Did rejet.

The Harley's around here all run straight pipes. Talk about LOUD. But the cops don't care. Guy across the street, when I lived downtown, had a Harley with pipes so loud and "thumping" that the vibration from them would set off car alarms.

We also have light weight helmet law. The law is not defined well and just says that you have "head protection." A guy wearing a baseball hat fought getting a ticket, and won.

Wish that we didn't even have such a law. I think that it is up to the individual rider if he wants "head protection" or not.

Nasty...I thought about riding today. It was 53 degrees here and I saw three or four bikes while I was out and about running errands.

Bill...my Hard Krome's did set off a car alarm once. That was funny. I was glad to sell the Yamaha...they were too loud for me. I try to be invisible to the police now. Good thing as I tend to ride a bit fast on the beemer. :D

Be safe out there. The cages really are all out to get us.

Great old bike, Bill.

Biggest mechanical job on the older twins is the "slingers", the crank oil distribution system.

I love the sound of those idling: burp.............burp..............burp..........burp, as if they are just running enough for their hearts to keep beating until you want them.

The sports bikes of the early performance twins !!!

Keep the rubber side down.

Nasty, SHINY !!! (You guys got GREEN grass already? damn.)

Be well and safe.

Sorry for not specifying...that *is* a pic from last year. Since then, the grass has turned brown and there is still some ice on the pond. Also, I have added barbed wire hand pinstriping and a windshield that lights up in red...it has my Club Patch laser engraved in it. I'll try to get a more current picture.

I've tuned mine for performance...not volume. Those are "Screaming Eagle" pipes...sold by Harley...great performace mufflers while still looking essentially stock. They are just a bit louder than stock at idle...only scream when she is kicking wide open.

She *is* still just as shiny though. :D

Well our grass is green. Pictures taken yesterday.

I planted tall fescue around our warehouse home. Fescue stays green year round in Georgia. It is hard to get a good lawn becasue it doesn't spread. One seed gives one blade of grass. Have to keep planting and reseeding. But it gives a good lawn.

Got about 3 acres planted. Been working on it about two years. Attacking the clover and other weeds now. Got my pre-emergent fertilizer combo out a few weeks ago.

Just turned on the sprinklers yesterday. There is some real beauty in watching the sprinklers going over a new-mown yard. Of course now it is raining. Need to get one of those devices that senses rain and shuts down the sprinklers. Really idiotic to watch the sprinklers going in the rain.

Yeah, I can turn them off manually, but then forget to turn them on again.

Use a 48" zero turn Yazoo Kees mower with a 19HP Kawasaki engine. It is almost as much fun to ride as the Honda Shadow! Really overkill for only three acres, but I love riding it. A fast, clean cut.

Rambling babble on Sunday morning at 5:45 am. You can tell I don't have a lot to do today.

Good to be a part of the Cantina. Feel at home here.

What's this all got to do with kukris? Everything...

Good to have you around Bill...

.

Yes...what does this have to do with khukuris? I don't know, but khuks have certainly taken me in. More than motorcycles have for sure. I am "hooked", and have been for over 20 years. Too bad I didn't know about HI in those early years. But then I'd probably have hundreds of khuks. to play with. Nice to have an "insanity" to hand down to my two boys. :D

LOL...Khukris are blessed...scoots are often *cursed*.... ;)

Mr. Marsh, sir?

Blue Moon down in Georgia is one of the most well-advertised BMW twin suppliers and...BOB's somewhere over on the East coast is another big-time mail supplier. http://www.bluemooncycle.com/

Have fun. Just a thought: make up your mind now how far you want to go in a restoration process; you can deplete the treasuries of Dubai if you try for a complete restoration, and still have a 45 y/o bike with about 35 hp.

I lucked with a "shed bike" several years ago: a 1970 R75/5 with 8k on the clock, but which had been stored under damp salty rags. It took all summer, and a lot of searching for someone who could reproduce the paint and pin-striping (without using tape).

By the time it was finished, it was too nice for me to ride, so I sold to someone who was going to add it to a "collection." I'm glad I did it, but the detail work never ended.

Have fun. Be safe.

Thanks Kis,

For the advice and the link. Time to get started on the retoration. I know Blue Moon Cycles, the are slightly north of Atlanta on a little back street that I believe they named.

It is, no kidding, called "Skin Alley."

Be careful lest the road rise up and meet thee causing a case of "asphalt rash."

Great old beemr!! Bill
You know I saw a special feature on the Vincents on the finer living channel
Supposed to be the fastest production bikes made in the years they were produced. Good looking bikes too.
Hard to go wrong with the Beemer though, they last forever and run strong to boot

It is great cycling weather down here ( except for this weekend)
Would have had to been a fish to like it this weekend.
Took the Valk and old hairy legs to Daytona a couple of weekends ago
going to the bluesfest in Jax this weekend on it, weather permitting.
Got the Harley out spruced her up a little and began riding her to save on
gas.
Everytime I go to Bike week in Daytona I see something that truly amazes me

I like the BMW, Wednesday will be 60 degrees, here in North East PA, I'll be out on the Venture, I've ridden all year here, so long as the roads dry and the wind don't blow too cold I'm out.
