As most of you who care know I have a remington 66 semi auto 22 LR

C:C:I stingers fly out of there like guided mssiles .
I used to have an elcheapo twenty dollar bushnell scope . It worked great . I shot great . Until it fell apart . The darn cross hairs literally fell out of position .

I would like a very inexpensive scope for it . I enjoy shooting iron sights . I would also like to hunt at a little longer distances and so a scope would be nice too . My short eyes are going . My long range vision is very good . What kind of scope do you recomend ?

Check out Cheaper than Dirt. You can pick-up some fairly inexpensive scopes in there.

A 3x9 x40mm is what I have on my 10/22.

Yo Kevin,
I used a Bsa redot sight on mine till it got heat adjusted last year...Once I set it, didnt have any worries until the aforementioned heat problem

Now it wears another redot made by tasco I think...No further than I shoot mine it works for me...Fast as well!

Red dots are neat . I do think though that having one on my little old 22 would give it a conniption fit .

Now you guys ? Don,t hunt me down just yet . That little slim tube bushnell did me just fine at twenty dollars . It just couldn,t hold itself together . Fairly good glass in there .

I guess the least amount more than twenty bucks for something that will take more than a strong flatus for it to discombobulate . (technical term)

I have a Bushnell 3-9x rimfire scope that seems just fine. I generally mount 4x scopes on my 22's (with 1" tube), but the Weatherby has the 3-9x on it. They run under $50 these days. I always tended to think inexpensive for my 22 scopes, but I am starting to think about a 2-7x Leupold rimfire scope of late. The fixed 4x scopes are just about perfect as far as I'm concerned for general shooting. Yes I know, you get what you pay for.

If I remember correctly the bushnell I had was a 3X8 . Very plasticky and weak . I even think it was bent out of position just by the foam in the rifle case . Mnie wasn,t a one inch tube . If I remember it was somewhere around 3/4 inch . Was the 3X9 much better made ?

I,m going to take my time about this . I miss shooting my rifles . At least I don,t miss when I,m shooting . L:O:L

Kevin,

EBAY is a good place to find cheaper used scopes, I would step up, quite a bit actually, from the 3/4 scope you had. Those are almost toys and very cheaply made, I would suggest you only look at 1" tubes with objectives no bigger than 40mm, 32mm is fine. Chris

Kevin,

I can't post EBAY links on here and your email is blocked, if you want me to send you some ideas shoot me an email it is on my profile. Chris

The Bushnell sells for about $40-$45 on ebay. It is 3-9x by 32mm Mat finish. It is made in China. Fine Duplex reticle. Has 1/4" MOA adjustments. It has 1" tube. It is not plastic. But it is not a $200 scope either. Don't even consider a smaller diameter scope for a 22 no matter how good a deal it is. The 1" tube diameter makes the scope a lot faster and easier to use and makes shooting a 22 a pure pleasure. Frankly, I think you will be happy with a 4x fixed. They tend to be better quality and inexpenisve. But, do get the 1" tube diameter.

How do you like your Nylon 66? For years I looked at them for $50ish and never bought because of the big blade front sight and nylon stock. Things have changed. Now you can't hardly buy one for $150 used. Always wanted a Nylon 76 though and they are pricey.

Thats something to look into . I only ever used my dinky little scope for plinking . I still beat a guy at speed shooting empty shotgun shells off a fridge . He was at a table and I was standing .Of course his being a lever action and mine a semi auto may have had something to do with it . Still seven out of eleven isn,t bad .

I need glasses for reading . Does that make a difference between fixed and adjustable scopes ?

The nylon 66 is deadly . Don,t give that nlyon stock a moments notice . People look at it as plastic and its a lot tougher than that . Fifty bucks ? I,d take two with one for spare parts . Ah I love to dream about what I would do with someone elses money . L:O:L

Everything you ever wanted to know about rimfires and has a subforum for scopes, but watch out they tend to steer you to benchrest target scopes. Make sure you get a rimfire scope (not a rifle scope) so that your scope is parallax free at appropriate rimfire ranges or get an adjustable objective (more expensive). A quality 4x scope would be a good choice (functional and cheaper than a variable). Also, 2-7x and 3-9x variables are good on low mag for fast close shots and quick follow up shots then can be cranked up for longer shots. I'd look at Simmons (I have a 3-9x 22Mag), Swift, Mueller, Nikon, and Weaver. They say to spend as much on the glass as you did on the gun. I don't know if I'd go that far but with scopes, there is a difference and better scopes cost more.
