Scoping an SKS?

I have a quick question. I just picked up a Norinco SKS yesterday that has a scope mount on the reciever cover, and I attached a Simmons 2.5-10x50 scope I had laying around a few minutes ago. The front bell of the scope hovers over the ejection port, however, and I'm wondering if this will cause any problems (scope getting knocked out of zero/ scope getting knocked loose/ spent casings bouncing back into the breech) when shooting the gun. If anyone has any information on this, I'd be grateful to them if they'd share it. Thanks in advance.

They make shell deflectors for the SKS to prevent just such problems. But a SKS doesn't really warrant a scope anyway.

I don't know. I have a nice, short 4x32 on mine and I like it. I don't see very well, so, I'll take all the help I can get.

I decided to take the scope and mount off the gun, and just use the iron sights. As far as practical accuracy goes, I figure if I can't hit what I'm shooting at with the iron sights, I won't be able to do it with a scope, either.

Plus, if your Norinco is anything like mine, the receiver cover moves around too much to be useful as a scope mount as is.

I don't recall who makes them at the moment but there are some aftermarket peep sights available that would help that gun out a lot more than one of those scope mounts. I never found my mount to hold anywhere near to zero.

someone makes a scout mount for the sks that allows mounting in the forward position but it looks somewhat flimsy to me. personally i like the sks with iron sights, more that likely if you can't hit it with irons you won't hit it with your typical sks scope. just my .02 ymmv

i had a rec'r mounted scope on my para SKS and took it off, the rec'r cover mounts just arent very good imho, and irons work fine for me like they are, i dont really see any great need for peeps on an SKS or an AK FWIW.

IIRC someone makes a better SKS mount now (b-square maybe???) which might work better,

i dont recall mine hitting the scope with empties but then again i wasnt looking for that.

I think the maker is Tech Sights. I have considered them, but I can get quick, accurate hits with the standard iron sights.
