Score on a 1980's Parker Cut Co Bowie...

So, while at a local Gun Show some weeks back, I ran across this fixed blade Bowie. It's branded as a Parker Cutlery Company knife (from their Eagle Brand line). The overall appearance caught my eye, having a nicely done Mother of Pearl and nickel silver handle, an attractively made blade (which is just a little shy of 9 inches long)... I was highly interested. My asking the dealer if I could handle it, he took it out of his display case for me to inspect it. Looking brand new, he told me that he also had the original box for it (him telling me he had purchased it out of an Estate Sale). I knew nothing about this knife, but liked it enough that I worked out a deal to purchase it for $100 even. All I knew was that I liked it! Anyhow, I took it home and began a bit of online searching for information about it. I quickly discovered that I had received a very good deal on it, with new in the box specimens being sold in the $300 - $350 range. It's an Eagle Brand from the Parker Cutlery Company that was made during the early 1980's. The production run falls somewhere in the 1000 to 1200 specimens made (each numbered as part of this limited run). Made in Japan for Parker, it was made to replicate a Bowie knife from the Civil War era. In any case, I don't do the impulse buying that often anymore, preferring to do a little homework on potential purchases first, but this impulse buy turned out okay for me, (my not only liking it, but also getting a very good deal). It may not be a Sheffield original, but it sure does a nice job at honoring those knives of the past.

Here's a picture supposedly from a page of a mid 1980's Parker catalog. It shows the knife at it's full retail price. The listed MSRP was $200 (under catalog designation JK-10). My paying $100 for it over 30 years later, seems like a pretty good deal to me!

Very nice and a great score. :)
I like the display you have it in.
A question concerning the display:
Are you going to add the Remington and Colt pistol flasks (reproductions are available) and perhaps a cap tin?
I know reproduction 1860's cap tin lables and the flasks are available, from that big store in Union City, Tn.
I hope you take those revolvers out for exercise once in a while. :)

Thanks!
And, as for the flasks... Maybe they'll be added someday. So many toys, so little money and space :)
I used to own and shoot cap and ball revolvers, way back in the day. Those got sold off, and modern centerfire pistols are now my go to shooting range fun. These two c&b revolvers, (an Uberti & a Pietta), were purchased by me as collectibles. The other items in the display are the extra cylinder for the Pietta, a US Silver Eagle coin, a Gec/Tidioute French Kate lady leg knife, and a Queen/Schatt & Morgan whitler (limited to 100 and marked Dawn of a New Era). I love displaying such items within my decor.
Thanks again for the kudos! :)

My scoring another good deal on yet another Parker Cutlery Company Bowie at this past weekend's Gun Show... I had to play a bit of musical chairs to find room in my existing display cases. The first purchased mother of pearl handled model found a home in this display (not the greatest pic)...

While my new acquisition Parker Cut Co bowie with buffalo horn handle scales, found a home where the other one was before...

My decision to place the black buffalo handled Bowie in that display case, was made because the lighter colored background in the display would allow the black scales to pop out more. Same with the MOP handled model, the white MOP scales pop out well in the display's darker background.

I must say, Parker seemed to be all over the place in what he offered. Some stuff seemed very much mickey mouse like, while other stuff, well... just seems to have been very decent stuff. These two bowies were really well executed! Both of these were made in Japan.

There were three fixed blade Bowie knives in that Parker Cut. Co. series, and I was able to get the third one this past Sunday.

She is just as in new'ish condition as the other two I had purchased :)

Thanks!
Yeah, the biggest one is the one with the buffalo horn handle, then the one with MOP handle, and the smallest being this last one having bone handle scales, (that are jigged to look like second cut stag).

I purchased all three from the same guy. He is a vendor at the gun shows that are held in my area twice a year, (near Spring time, and near the Fall). Well, during the past three gun shows, I have purchased three of his knives. If he has something else at the next show that I like, maybe I'll score again ;)
