I picked Kim up today after a week of camp for victims of TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). During the ride home I was telling her that I mentioned to a friend that she was tired of living with her mom and I, and she badly wanted to move to an assisted living environment. The person had asked about a nursing home/assisted living facility near our home. I told them that I had never seen any young people staying there, and Kim would be surrounded by only the elderly. Kim grinned, and I suddenly knew what she was going to say before she said it.

"And that would be different, how?"

Mike,,,not that you need to be told ,,but,, Brother,,she is amazing!!,,

Cracked me up & Made my day,

Give her a hug for me,

Wade

Next she'll be suggesting you two move there and she'll keep the house:D

Or my wife may move us out. While Kim was at camp, I stayed the week at my mother's old house wwhich is near the camp, did some shooting, woods roaming, etc.

Kathy told us this morning that her blood pressure was 122/71 (pretty good for a 68 year old woman) during a doctor's visit Thursday, the best it has been in years, by far. I looked at Kim and said, "After just four days with you and me gone..."

I'm new and don't know the situation, but my wife and I got a kick out of your story!:D

Thumbnail verson: Our adopted daughter, now 30, hit by a car in July 2002 in a hit and run at age 21. Severe head impact, cracked both eye sockets, traumatic brain injury, ruined right knee, damage to right optical nerve, severely lacerated liver. We were told in turn: probably won't survive, will always be in coma, will always be a vegetable, will never be able to swallow or speak, eyes will never be synchronous, will never walk.

Today she cares for herself, cooks, cleans, eats anything she wants, speaks well enough to order a pizza over the phone, Walks, but has an awkward gait. Goes to summer camp and canoes, swims, rappels, climbs rock wall, rides zip line, etc. under proper supervision, of course. Shoots about as well as many non-handicapped individuals I know. Has great sense of humor. Loves Busse knives and has a decent little collection of her own. Was the second ever inducted Hoggette. Somewhere around this forum is a good pic of her at this year's Blade Show.

If we could only get her to cheer up and come out of her shell...

My remaining big goal in life is to see her able to live independently before wife and I assume room temperature.

Kim has big heart and is a very inspiring young lady, i had the privilege of eating dinner with her at the induction dinner and assisted her to the buffet line and helped to carry her plates, she made me laugh and have a good time during he whole time I was in her presence.

Mike she will come out of her shell and surpass all of you guys wishes.

Tell her I said hello and you all have a good rest of the summer.

I loved the photo of Kim at Blade 2010 wielding the Gladius. In that picture she's obviously not holding back, and just as obviously, nothing else is going to hold her back for long.

O, that's Kim? LOL. I remember her at Blade, she was mad cool. We were next to each other trying to catch the offerings. I gave her one or two offerings she dropped or should have gotten. It was lots of fun!

It was nice to meet you all at blade :) I miss you all already! I got to chat with Kim a little at every
Busse family meal at blade show!

Mike you have a real character to look after you ...and I'm sure Kim does ;)

Next year in the cards??
