Went to my favorite beverage store today, and they had some Van Winkle in stock.

Picked up a 12yo special reserve and a 10yo handmade 90 proof...

I know what I'll be drinking this weekend.

:D

Funny story: I called Julian Van Winkle the other day because I got a couple customers that want to buy an entire barrel of 23 Year Old Van Winkle...that's about $11-13,000 depending on the quantity the barrel produces. Julian said, "Ryan, I wish I could sell a barrel of 23 year to you, but I don't have any whisky!!!" Julian switched distilleries about 6-7 years back from Heaven Hill to Buffalo Trace. Apparently the Heaven Hill stuff is diminished and he has nothing ready of the new Buffalo distilled Van Winkle to send to market. He is, however, releasing small small small small (did i mention small) quantities around the USA right now to keep the name around and spoken about.

Lesson learned: Buy what you can, while you can.

Cheers!

I guess I'll be making a drive back to the store tomorrow. They had one bottle of the 12yo left today :-)

IMO We start a yearly Midwest gathering for Busse/Swamp/SYKW fans @ The Red River Gorge in Slade, Kentucky. Unbelievable spot to hike/camp and drink bourbon!

Did they have 12 year old Rootbeer ?

...Got 12, 15 and 20 here... Always looking to trade just about (almost) anything for some good INFI!;)

Hey guys, never tried the Pappy before. My local store has a bottle of 20 year old for $120. Is that a good deal? Is it worth it?

people always disagree on taste -like things. but i would say:

if you never tried it : do it - just to say you have done it. nothing to get drunk on in my opinion (well you can but kinda a waste) but a good option to add some "class" to a good evening once in a while.
