I AM STOKED!
There were only 54,000 made.
I am beyond thrilled to have found this and honored to get to restore it.
I may keep it, I may let it find a home with a veteran Navy flyer.
I have a main spear blade just waiting for it!

Now if I could figure out how to weld new blades onto old tangs...
Hunting old knives for blades sucks!
 
Were these USN pocket knives only made in 1944? Reason I ask is because I am curious to learn how you dated your example to 1944. I have one myself, but was unsure when during WWII it was manufactured -

Camillus published some information back in the early 60’s about their WW2 production. Much of it consists of hand sketches of knives with production and other information on each page.
