I plan on working with fixed blades for the most part, but I love and carry folders every day and naturally want to try my hand at one someday.......so when a good buddy asked if there was anything I needed for the shop I mentioned a couple things. He runs a machine shop and he said, "What about taps?" I told him that if I needed any they would have to be small ones. He wasn't sure of what he had lying around but said he'd look. He stopped by tonight and handed me this nice little pile of boxes. There's a really nice assortment from 0-40 all the way up to 10-32:thumbup:

Tools are awesome, but they're even sweeter when they are gifts! Now I'm gonna have to do something with them:D

Dude, that's awesome! I have really been wanting to attempt a folder recently, sounds like you have too - take it as a sign and get to work! :D

Seriously, some days I really wonder what the crap I'm doing going to med school... Really not sure why I didn't go to gunsmithing school instead.

Yeah, I gotta start some drawings!:D

I hate to encourage you to give up on med school, but I hear what you're saying. I mean, seriously.......you live in one of the most amazing knife making areas in the whole country!!!;)

They are larger and coarser than most folder tasks require, but I bet they will come in handy for some sort of project. You might want to tap some fixed blade tangs for handle screws. Most folder taps are 0-80,1-72,2-56, and occasionally 4-40. Get a can of Moly-Dee tapping fluid and a tapmatic and you are ready to roll.

Thanks Stacy:thumbup: I appreciate that info. Now that I think about it, I assume that is because when it comes to liner material in folders you want more threads per inch in order to get a good grip. If you are using 1/16" liner material you would only get two or three threads with a 32 or 40 screw.

Like the old saying goes, "There's no such thing as a free lunch."

My daughter brought home not one, not two, but three FREE puppies. They are going to cost me re-carpeting her bedroom. Woo-hoo!
