Ok so now Fiance thinks I'm totally insane. We went to the Wovlerine knife show here in Detroit this past weekend, and of course I found a nice knife I couldn't live without. The insane part is when we went to the hardware store later the same day I noticed two Schrade 104OT Minutemen in the hanging case price reduced to 12.00 bucks. USA made on the side of the package and into the cart one went. Did I really need another knife, well I think she is starting to realize it's a disease.

The grind was horrible, so it took some work but now it's nice and sharp, great steel whatever it is! The fit and such is perfect, what a great little knife, my first Schrade ever.

So now I'm sitting here at work wondering whether I should go pick up the last one. I really have no need for it.

Go buy the other one and give to a good friend along with a new shiny penny.

My parent's owned a small town hardware store back in the 80's. One of my afterschool jobs was to restock and fill out the order for the knife case. So, I've owned knives like these seemingly my whole life. Only now do I realize how lucky I was back in the day.

Anyway, my dad always gave a buyer a shiny penny if the knife was a gift. He said it was a superstition that if you gave someone a knife without the penny it might "cut" your friendship.

My logic for giving the other knife away is to possibly hook a friend on your new hobby, and hence if he ever finds two that can't be pass up he might share his treasure with his friend that introduced him.

Yeah I was thinking of getting one for a gift but I would feel the need to cut open the plastic, put a real edge on the knife and then give it away. I do like the penny thing, I have never heard that before.

I had always heard that the person receiving the knife should give the penny/coin in return...

BTW, good score on the 104 OT!

G'Day Mog, I would be inclined to give a friend the penny instead ,and keep the extra knife mate! I suspect Schradophenia is taking hold mate and there is no known antidote except to find another...and another....and.
I have over 1000 Schrades now and my wife keeps reminding me I only have two hands..Hoo Roo from Downunder.

I posted this on another site, but thought you all might get a kick out of it. Spent a little quality time with the minuteman.

Nice whittling, mog! It is good to see the results of a sharp knife used with skill!
